Retiring in VN

Hello,

I'm planning on moving to VN, specifically Ca Mau City sometime early next year. I will be retired with no plans to work or open business so am wondering about visa situation.

I know at the moment a 3 month visa is the longest obtainable one with one extension possible i think. Would it possible to get further extensions after 6 months? If not I guess a visa run to Cambodia would be in order.

I was wondering too about residence cards. I know they are being simplified come april this year but was wondering how difficult one would be to obtain in the first place for someone in my situation?

I聮m retired in a small town just north of Cau Ma, between Soc Trang and Can Tho. I would say at this point the best thing for you to get is a Viet Kieu exemption certificate in your passport. If you want to PM me thru this site I聮ll provide you with a little more information. Vietnam is a great place to retire but there are still a lot of issues with visa聮s and residence cards.

I'm sure it is. I've got a real nice setup waiting for me in Ca Mau. Here's hoping by next year the visa issues will be sorted. It would be nice to see those 6 month visas again but i doubt that will happen anytime soon, if ever...

Anyone know for sure how long you must stay out of country once the visa exemption runs out? I've heard once you have the new one you can re-enter immediately but was wondering if anyone can confirm that.
