Seeking a place to live and die.

Michael William

At 76 I guess I am entering the end game.  After 15 years in Thailand I am looking for a final move.  I'd like a house with a garden; access to a ping pong table; gym.  I am Quizmaster for a team in Pattaya and am looking to make friends through similar activities such as playing pool.  I'll need help in acquiring a long term visa and knowledge of the hoops I need to jump through.

I am a professional writer for three local publications here and have published two books on Thailand plus a blockbusting non-seller on Amazon.

I am an ex-teacher with 38 years experience in UK schools.  I can read/write some French; I have a smattering of Thai.  As a teacher of English, Maths isn't my strong suit so I'll need help mastering all the noughts in the Vietnamese currency.

I am sure there are folk out there with a wealth of experience.  My email is - ***
I will be glad to hear from you.

Many expats including myself have made the move from Thailand to Vietnam, which to some degree is a more stable and forward-looking country.

There are a number of smaller cities along the coast and a few in the mountains that are popular with those who have retired. The cost of living is generally quite reasonable and the weather usually pleasant. Although not as fun or as interesting as Thailand, VN has its advantages.

Regarding visas, in general visa agents are used to assist with obtaining long-term visas.

Feel free to ask any questions here. This is a fairly active and helpful forum.

Things been looking murky lately in Thailand, but my dude, Vietnam is the land of sunny optimism, early mornings, flowers, happy children. Think - rejuvenation. Please leave your casket-shopping attitudes in the kingdom!  :top:
