I'm not sure whether I understand your question. If you're asking whether proof of onward travel is required for your entry to Vietnam, then no, it is not.

I am starting off in Saigon, probably for a month or two but maybe longer.

Last decade I visited Hanoi for a few weeks but this is the first visit since.

Spent this first morning arranging a sim card (chose Vietel for better or worse)聽 聽and trying to get my head around banks and ATMs.聽 Using a WISE card procut=red in Australia but haven't successfully retrieved dong from an ATM yet.聽 Fortunately I did bring a few crisp notes from Oz.

Any clues or experiences with how much can be retrieved from any particular ATM brand would be welcome.

Oh, and the cheap hotel via Bookings dot com didn't measure up to its hype so will be hunting new digs in a few days.

Ahhhh, so already here, then! Alrighty, good to have you with us!

You did well to choose Viettel. Load up on Data, as opposed to Telephone credit, as you'll likely use apps for communicating/translating/maps etc. If you didn't already know, "Zalo" is a very popular app for voice/video calls.

There was a good thread on ATMs from Nov 2022 you might find helpful.

Titled, "Banks with the largest ATM Withdrawal Limits"

Saigon is, to me anyway, a world apart from Hanoi, and is certainly my preference.
