Want to donate to a Vietnamese charity but are unsure who or how?

Hi guys,

I often meet expats that want to give something back to the local community but are unsure how.听 I have been doing some volunteering with Saigon Children's Charity, and have seen, first hand, the amazing work they do in helping disadvantaged children in Vietnam get an education.

Have a look at their latest campaign and if you can spare $10, it's a huge help to the charity!听

It is a very good initiative indeed听

You should also post an advert in the Clubs, associations, volunteers in Saigon section of the website and update it whenever there is a new campaign so as members can easily find it.

I think an idea could be that english teachers do one hour teaching voluntarily (to kids who cannot afford to go to language schools) for every two hours they do that is paid.听 I know of some teachers that do some voluntary teaching. Seems a good way of 'giving something back'.

Yeah,听 I was on the same boat when I was decided what charity to volunteer for.听 I really appreciate your concern.听 If you lived in Vietnam,听 it'll be much easier and I would of invited you to visit the office and see the work that they do.听

So,听 things that settled my concerns were that it is a UK based charity and with that being said,听 it has to satisfy a certain number of criteria.听 Potentially most important would be transparency and seeing exactly where the money goes.听 With that in mind I'll听 direct you to the link below which has a full financial reporrs over the last couple of years or so.听

If the particular website I posted is something you are not at ease with,听 you can always donate directly through their bank details听听just mention 'bicycle'听 in your reference, otherwise it will be considered as a general donation.听听

As an update,听听we can now afford 54/87 bicycles.听 We are also going to have company,听 as part of a team building exercise,听 helping build us some more this week.听 So getting closer.... Slowly...听

Could I have their overseas head office address and email please?

I used to be a journalist, I can speak English and I love doing something, as you said: give something back, so, if you need a hand, I am yours.

Hello guys,

Thanks for all the interest in SCC and helping Vietnamese kids in general.听 I'm happy to help.

Firstly, here is some information regarding the NGO registration number and their addresses both internationally and in Vietnam.

Next, SCC is always looking for volunteers, if you look at this page you can registered your details and they will get in contact with you when their next event is on.听

Lastly, with regarding to Nh贸m Thi峄噉 nguy峄噉 Tu峄昳 Tr岷� T峄� T芒m orhphange.听 I am not aware of that particular orphange myself.听 However, my advice would be to give items rather than money to these institutions, then you can be sure on where your money is going.听 I tend to visit a place with my vietnamese friend and we ask the owner what they really need.听 As you can imagine, it's usually nappies (diapers) or cleaning products, but sometimes clothes and reading materials.听听I appreciate that you are not in the country but my maybe you have a friend who is based in Vietnam who can assist you?听 Currently, I'm quite busy juggling SCC around my work but I am planning on visiting an orphange when I next get paid.听 If I head there, I'll let you know

Kind heart. Thanks alot becos of your kindess when come to Vietnam. Im Vietnamese and i feel luk becos there is ao nice people like you come to our country. Teaching English for the kids is a good thing i think. If you want to teach for kids at kindergarden tell me, i will try to contact with the director and ask them if they intresting. Im sure they will. My little girl studing there. Thats is a countryside one, i think the children there will love to meet and studing with you.
