Expenses for Medicines and Dental in Belize

Hello Folks,

Anyone can share some experiences or information about the expenses in Belize:

Is it easier to get the prescription medicines?

From where?

Can you get everything you need like in North America?

For instance: the medicines to control high blood press, high blood sugar and high cholesterol, etc.

Dental: Cleaning up, Filling and Implanting, etc. I was told that to implant a tooth is cheaper than Canada. Is it true?

Cheers,

Will

It might depend on which part of Belize you might be in. Some medications are not available in the country, in which case you'd have to get someone to ship your prescription in from outside the country. On the other hand, some of the more common prescription medications are available at the local pharmacy, you just have to go in and ask for them.

In my own case, the two prescription medications that I need are usually available (but not always, so a little planning ahead is wise). The more common challenge is that I can't get the exact dosage I'm looking for. Often I have to settle for a higher dose and manually split them. It's a bit of a hassle, but at least I can get what I need.

I live down bit south, close to Hopkins. I went to the local dentist for teeth cleaning for $40 usd. I went to a local doctor for QRP medical, including the exam, blood and urine test for $90 usd. Prescription meds depend on the availability, no need prescription, just check with the local pharmercy, price is reasonable.
