I saw raw containers ~3k delivered a couple years back if that helps. You may want to seek out companies that work in Limon and are more focused on repurposing raw containers than those companies that make their livelyhood off creating finished container homes.

I saw someone recently posted about being聽 scammed by a couple container home companies on the Facebook page 鈥滳osta Rica Interior Design & Residential Home Building.鈥� I鈥檇 be weary and super careful.

@Laura Spiers........Watch out for a guy with the name of " B*** A***" and he is not the only one ! He has scammed a bunch a people in Costa Rica.......Do yourself a favor and get beyond choosing this kind of junk to live in.It gives the impression of cost effectiveness but it is not.Along with the compromised plumbing and waste management...

Thanks all.聽 I also was told to be wary of a company called Ecocontainers.

When our two homes were being built, the first thing the contractors did was build a modest bodega to store tools, etc and to give workers a place to stay. They left at least one person to watch over things overnight and on the weekends.

When the projects were finished, they dismantled the bodegas and re-used the materials on another job.

I wonder if this wouldn't be a better, simpler approach than finding a shipping container, getting it delivered to your building site, and then getting rid of it when you no longer need it.

Or maybe I'm wrong . . .

Jimmy Lee American ex pat and chiropractor is containerhomes.net聽 A straight shooter l met him over a decade ago he is in the same biz same place, other side of pista from the san ram mall exit little further up the hill so on left via access rd by carwash. He has very good rep, can get grumpy if you want too much of his time but reasonable.聽 And has great taste in his product line.Getting an empty delivered l am sure the quality will be as agreed which is the major caution buying these generally. It will be legal as in nationalized with him he gets them in Caldera i think, and one trip units, so have deliverd a cargo then sold very clean without dents or chems leaked into the wooden floors.

@daveandmarcia yes that would be great bit we arent starting to build until late next year and want to do some things ourselves on the property.聽 We also are building a garage yet with the plans so want to lock up tools and toys since we can only get there twice a year until my daughter goes to college next year. thank you so much for your response. its so nice to hear from people that have been there!

yep well you really stick out if you are not honest in the san ramon area its small. He has a transport guy who is family and experienced enough to quote delivery for me into chiriqui panama, really nice people it was a good deal l was poised then pandemic so no go. depending where you want the unit to be might be relevant to entertaining other options but speaking at least some spanish will avoid misunderstandings with vendors in the city for example.

i own an ocean container in NM. and everything rusts inside over time . leather gets hard! its really not that great of a choice because they Sweat to much鈥�. my 2 cents!

We had to buy a container for our current build. It will be used to store materials and tools while building. It cost 6k delivered from Pasa Canoas and is 20ft long. There was a 40' long one for $5k as it did not need to be delivered since it was already in town. I expect to sell ours once the project is complete.

We did end up getting a 20ft reefer from Jimmy Lee.聽 He put a floor in, painted it and delivered.聽

I would consider the climate of your construction location first.聽 Higher up, it'll be cool, so maybe living in a metal box would be ok.聽 But many of us live where it can be quite hot during the mid-day; and the humidity is virtually impossible to escape unless you run AC constantly.聽 I would think that living in a metal box would be like a small torchure chamber when its really hot.聽 I don't see the Ticos living in containers...聽 they mostly live in concrete houses, or wood, or a combination of the two..

Just an observation...

My house is all concrete block, a steel framed roof and reflector laminated aluminum roofing... I don't have AC and it seems quite comfortable ... the breezes help (know which direction your breezes come from) and of course.. higher ceilings with ceiling Fans really do the job.聽 There are maybe 10 days a Year that I wish I had AC.聽 聽

I love container houses...聽 but, probably not the best choice here or else EVeryBody would already be doing it.
