Family Relocation Fears

stan1000

Hi Everyone,

My company may be moving my family to Santiago in the very near future. While I am VERY excited about this opportunity my wife is very aprehensive about moving and could shut the whole thing down.
Her main concerns are:
the baby (she is pregnant)
the dogs (we have two of them)
making friends (how can she meet other English speakers)
Safety

Can any of you give me good pointers??

Thnaks,
Stan

Hi Stan,聽 聽let's put your wife's mind to rest.

Santiago is a very聽 progressive city聽 for the聽 DR.聽 One of hte very聽 best hospitals is in聽 Santiago and she will receive top notch care!聽 聽Your聽 dogs will be fine as well, we have good聽 vets.

Santiago has a lot of areas, you need to find聽 a good safe neighborhood to聽 make your wife feel聽 safe. I am not an expert on those聽 areas but聽 we can find someone to help you.

I am a single female who has lived in the聽 DR almost聽 8 years and I聽 feel聽 very safe.聽 Like all places you quickly learn where to go and where not to go. But聽 overall it is as聽 safe as any city.

She will meet people fairly聽 quickly. Santiago is a fairly聽 cultured and more educated city. She will聽 be able to make friends.I can introduce you to a few聽 English speaking people聽 I know and respect!

More questions,ask away.

Hi Planner:

Santiago is a great city. It has almost everything that you may want or need.
It has various English speaking schools and also an English speaking Church ( International Christian Church).
You will also find good medical care providers.
I have been living in santiago Dom Rep. since year 2000 with my family and 2 children and it has been great.
If you have any other questions, I will be glad to help.
