We have the highest road death rate in the world. 80% are from motorcycles.聽 I will suggest your ebike or bicycle won't be overly safe.聽

As to bringing yours or buying here - limited selection here and the price will be high.
The DR traffic and drivers are bad enough, but then throw in a e-biker in the mix and you are in big danger.聽 E-bikes do not have the power or pick-up to keep up with the mad-dash driving which will make you a road hazard and to some, a target!聽 It may work in a small quite community, but not in the major cities and roadways.聽 Take out some really good health insurance since you may not need it on the e-bike.聽

@sberger50
Thank you.
I visit the DR 3-4 times a year and bring my gravel bike with me. You need a minimum of 35mm tires.

In SD, I usually ride the Malecon early in the morning. It has a bike path and it about 5 miles long. There is also a large park (name escapes me) that has a 3-4 mile loop.

Las Terrenas, I ride up to Lemon and back about 20 miles or go through Coson on the toll road. Also there is an putter loop , it鈥檚 about 10 miles total. Las Terrenas is not flat, so expect some rolling hills.

I have also rode in Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and other places. I would suggest you go on Strava and look at the rides others have done.

Thank you.
I brought my ebike here and love it.聽 聽I ride in my community, to a few close restaurants, a community where friends live that is close and occasionally to the stable where my horse is early in the morning.聽 聽 I have to be hyper vigilant, and I installed review mirrors on both sides to see what is coming up behind me.聽 聽I don't聽 drive my bike during busy hours outside my community, but I love having it here.

My wife and I have thought of bringing ebikes to use on the beaches in Cabarete.聽 I doubt we鈥檇 ride on the roadways for all the reasons above.聽

However, I鈥檝e never seen an ebike on any beach ever. Does anyone know if If it legal to ride them there?
How much does an e - bike costs ,
I Don't think bikes are allowed on beaches! Imagine what that could lead to.
Last year we lived in a community right on Cabarete Bay (Bahia de Arena) and I own a fat tire bike I rode up and down the beach.聽 There were several others, as well, and no one bothered us or even seemed to notice.

@Tippj
You can buy them (in the USA) from $1500 to $5000+.聽
Some of these e-bikes can go up to
$2000 I鈥檝e seen them in Costco for聽
$7-800 usd and they were just mid- leval

I was wondering how much they cost in the DR

@planner I think it's highest because the reporting is better than Egypt's! (personal observation, no offence to Egyptians)

@renzom667 I live in Las Terrenas, and mountain bike ride all over the DR. We have a good shop here that has specialized e-bikes and a few other brands, both for the town and the Enduro crowds. Plenty available in the capitol.

Safety is fine for bikers in the woods or highways, but in the urban areas it's definitely a little iffy. Defensive riding is must.

Also, we have great mountain bike park here in Las Terrenas that I help maintain. There are a good crowds of road, beach, and mtbikers in most towns. A good mix of Dominicans and expats makes the communication interesting!

Where is the mountain bike park in LT?

Contact Louis ay Real Bike Las Terrenas. Tell him Josh sent you.

I鈥檓 not interested in riding - just curious! The triathlon here in LT uses our hill as part of the route.it must be tough!

There a lot of mountain bike trails in North SD, it feels like you are miles out side the city but yet only 10 mins away, by Aeropuerto La Isabela. Great trails! FYI
