Departmento of Hacienda, don't get it

hello, I briefly asked about this before here but didn't get a answer, I been to Departmento of Hacienda website quite a few times with no answers, I'm trying to get the excise tax on a 2002 chevrolet corvette, I get a ''No registration''聽 response, I type in 2003 corvette and get a tax of 3,500! can someone help me on the excise tax on my 2002 vette? base model.聽聽Thank you in advance

Yes, I put in the vin number and it still comes up with no registration, thanks @Rey for trying to help. do you think why it doesn't show up because it's too old?

Your guess is as good as mine. I think a phone call may be the way to go. People spend many hours trying to talk in person with people in Hacienda, so it may not be likely that somebody here would volunteer.

MARCA/ MODELO/# 0 NO REGISTRADO聽聽聽 that is what I get,聽聽 BTW it's pure insanity to tax a 16 year old PRODUCTION american car that kelly blue book values at 14,000 dollars, a聽 3,500 dollars TAX,聽 thats something like 25% excise tax.聽 that is CRAZY

My friend, I called Departmento of Hacienda and if you don't speak spanish the answering menu hangs up on you聽 lol聽 this shouldn't be this complicated.

Sorry it does sound like it is too old for the automated system or they never had a Corvet in the island, LOL.

While sometime around 1998 the government decided to add English as another official language and supposedly having a requirement to know English in order to work for the government, the island is still
mostly a Spanish speaking country. A modern system like a phone inquiry system should be asking if you want Spanish or English, but obviously it does not.

The difficulty comes in that you probably need to be handy when somebody calls or goes in person in order to get the correct information and so you can also ask questions which the other person can translate.

You may need a trip to the island before the move anyway to make arrangements for a rental property. Unless somebody can go there with you on their phone and get the information. Maybe your realtor can help you on this?

Yes ive really thought about that but im moving lol. The usa isnt a place whete i want to stay.聽 I'll get a rental car till my car gets there and just make a way.聽 Im a survivor @ Rey. Lol.

Rentals are expensive as hell in PR. Try to get a long term rental contract ("long term" meaning more than 28 days) to save $ on your daily rate. I've rented long term in Europe in the past for about $1k per month. Enterprise does long term rentals but unsure if they're done in PR specifically. The rental companies usually have a different department that arranges long term.

Finally, got in touch with someone at Departmeno of HACIENDA , to import a 2002 chevrolet corvette?聽 3,257.00聽聽well now I know lol聽聽Thank you to everyone on their imput and advice

4 years ago I bought a new truck for $23k. The tax value on the truck 4 years later is $26k. My truck went up in value?
Is there an appeal process?

I'm not attached to my vehicles, and don't plan on shipping them.聽 But I'm surprised that everyone else is so surprised that the tax is so high.聽 You are all aware that the island is bankrupt, right?聽 Of course they will assess exorbitant taxes to non-residents whenever possible!

Yes, the whole bankruptcy thing is a totally different long subject!!聽 I would get banned if I spoke the truth behind the PR deal!!聽 the bankers need to be in prison!
