Short-Term Residence Permit Extension – Integration Question

bulubusra

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation in Belgium.

I came to Leuven as a visiting PhD student’s spouse. Our current residence permits will expire on 28 February 2026, and we plan to apply for a temporary 4-month extension until June 2026 to match my spouse’s program.

The Leuven municipality requires proof of integration for residence permit extensions. Since our stay is very short and temporary, we haven’t participated in formal integration programs.

We are considering submitting some small evidence of integration, such as registration in a Dutch language course

Has anyone gone through this process for a short-term extension? Did the municipality require full integration documentation, or were small efforts sufficient? Any tips or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!
