Birth certificate issue for nationality

I am an Indian national planning to apply for Belgian citizenship in the future, but I have a discrepancy with my documents. My original birth certificate from my home country only lists a partial name, while my passport and all other official records show my full name.

I reached out to the local issuing authority in my home country to get the birth certificate updated, but they informed me it isn't possible. I’ve never had an issue with this discrepancy until now. Has anyone dealt with this before? What are my options or workarounds for the citizenship application?

Can you legally change your name to match the birth certificate and get a passport with the new legal name ?

My wife had to do that also due to a discrepancy with her passport.

Thank you for the response. Maybe that's the backup option. But every other documentation is with the name, as per passport.

This has been covered before. Please search the forum

That was also the case with my wife. She had the birth certificate under name A and passport, payslips, language tests, etc. under name B.

She changed the passport to name A while everything else remained under name B. Her application was accepted.

Note that name A and name B were not radically different. Basically, her middle name and family names were mixed up.

you can go to an Indian Embassy in Belgium with your passport, and Birth certificate, and ask for the "one and the same person" certificate, they can issue it in French. I had same situation, and was requested at the commune to do it (I am from another country). Then I went to the "transcription service" at the commune, and they put my Birth Certificate in the system. After that the application for the nationality was accepted. I have read there are many situations like this resolved by "one and the same person" certificate from the Embassy.
