Notice of Marriage / Affidavit / Single status

Hi everyone! :)

I'm from the UK and a resident of Belgium (working full-time in Leuven and living near Gembloux).

My girlfriend and I (she is Belgian) are due to marry on the 17 July 2020*, but the local commune just let me know that I have to have a declaration that I am not already married (attestation de c茅libat), along with also having my birth certificate, for which I provided a Multilingual standard form (MLS), legalised by a tribunal.

I'm a little confused as to how to get the declaration that I am single, I've found these forms but I can't really find any explanation of what to do with them:

The consulate office seems to be closed due to Covid and the online appointment booking portal does not work.

A local notary just told me that I can do the form with them, but it will be very expensive and I should contact the consulate.

Does anybody have experience of this process and can help? I'm completely lost.

Thanks in advance!

*it seems my family won't be able to make it here for the wedding, so likely it'll be delayed anyway, but I'll need these forms at some point!

Hey!

You just need to provide a certificate of celibacy issued by your administration to proof you're singled/widow/divorced, that you're not married, and so, you're eligible to get married (monogamy))

you'll find more info on
It """seems""" to be 55拢 (50 for the consulate fee & 5 for the post) and you'll get it +/- 10 days later.
Just be careful that the validity of that paper (should be 6 months max, but I didn't check myself)

Thanks for the quick response! I got that document and have already given it to the commune (certifcat de coutume), but apparently it does not prove my 'single' status.

They asked me to complete the documents that I linked above, but I just don't know what to do with them...!

Hi,

Call directly GRO office in UK. They will solve the problem directly.

Thanks, I'll give that a go!
SimCityAT - The UK Embassy is closed due to Covid. The phone number is emergency only and there are no emails that I can find unfortunately.
