Driving Theory Exam - Problem with translator

Hello,

My friend has taken his Driving Theory test in Brussels today and couldn't succeed. The problem is that the English translation was not clear enough to answer since the translator was in a hurry to leave.

The english translation of options was like, The car can go (instead of telling car is allowed to go in that direction) and the same translation The car can go (instead of the car must go in that direction). The translator told exactly the same options while reading the options available to answer. It was very difficult to identify right options without correct translation.

Only two out of the whole batch succeeded.

Would it be possible to appeal against it ?

Any suggestions would be of great help.

Exactly what happened to me. Just translated it wrong. Not sure why I needed to pay 50€ for that person. She is old but totally a mess in her English.

So, I am learning everything in French so I will not need that  translator :)

Wrong translation is absolutely unacceptable. There's no point that they charge for translator and she does it wrong. At the end we fail and have to do it again ! It's very much frustrating.

Would it be possible that we can appeal against this ?

Guys,
Can you pls mention which center are you talking about so other can benefit from this.

And absolutely, this should be brought to attention. One of my colleague also failed and she had given the exam in anderlecth.

I would like to add here my experience in getting the Belgian Driving License. Appeared my theory exam with interpreter at Deurne, Antwerp.

Theory Exam:
1st Attempt: (23rd Jul 2020) Scored 39/50. Missed 6 questions only but 1 of them was with 5 marks so missed to make it. Experience with the interpreter was nice. She repeated the questions 2 times and if we had doubt we can ask only when she is repeating the question. Studied online and real exam is very relatable.

2nd Attempt: Scored(07th Sep 2020) 49/50. Studied again through the same website. Had the same interpreter for this attempt as well.

Note: There are some issues in the translation like "at the signal", after the signal", etc but if you ask after the first translation it goes quite smooth.

Practical Exam:(23rd Sep 2020)

Note: I have an Indian driving license so can give the exam directly.

The exam centers are quite full and not available. I tried all the Driving schools in Leuven as well to get an earlier date. I got an appointment in Exam Centre Bree when I was checking online. As I didn't know the area I took a 2 hrs driving school trial lesson to know the area. I had emailed the Exam center and they gave me options for interpreter and I choose one randomly and luckily he was very nice and co-operative. The driving test went very smooth I drove for almost 45 minutes with 2 maneuvers. After the practical test I was asked to take a risk perception test which went well. Finally after the Risk perception the examiner told me that I have passed and he gave me a paper which I submitted in my commune and got the license in 5 days...

Thanks for the info @Waqar517.

So you mean you did not take the provisional license at all and directly went for the Practical exam ?
Yes that's correct

Hello,

Actually, in French, can, be able to and to be allowed are the same verb: "pouvoir" (to be allowed is "être autorisé" but it is a little bit long :) Besides, we speak instead "c'est possible", coming from the verb "pouvoir". The problem must to come from that.

After, can and must it is not at all the same "pouvoir" and "devoir": possibility and obligation. But for the first translation, it it totally understandable...

Good luck for the next time!!!

Hello
Where s the school in brussels To submit the examination

@Waqar517

Do we still have that option of appearing directly for the practical test with an Indian licence without provisional licence?

@rajpnr

Did you have a person beside you translating ?
