Hello Breanda,

I didn't got my visa yet, but many friends or their families here had their visa. They wrote information about their timeline in the previous posts. I kindly recommend you to check them.

For me, I and my son applied on 12 Aug and 1 Oct our app is registered on the IBZ website. To learn which docs you need and what is the process, the best is to ask the visa center (generally it's VFS) in your city or country. Because procedures can vary and it's best to learn from your country.

Because of wrong information, we passed the wrong process and lost many months. We are separated from my husband for 13 months.

Now we wait for the conclusion of our family reunification visa. Already 2 months passed since we applied to the VFS visa center.聽

thank you. Sorry about this. My first visa was rejected that was before we got married after we waited for 6months. They claim its a tourist visa and it was a visit visa. But then we were on the the marriage process when we got the feedback.聽 So now we are married.聽 Embassy said it takes 3to 4 months websites says 9 months so I don't understand.聽 But am supose to apply for family reunion but we don't know this time how long. We were frustrated and that makes things hard. Maybe did you go through interview or document verification process with embassy lawyer or legalisation of document? Am skin becouse in your case is much similar to mine as I have a daughter too three years

Hey hi,

So from the date when it started showing in the IBZ website it took us approximately 3.5 months to get the visa approved.
Mostly, I have heard it gets approved within the time period of 3-4 months.

how true is this?
my wife got to Belgium last month and i am planning to apply for reunion by 5th of November. We are both Nigerians .does that mean i will get it between 15-30 days?

Hi Johnson, I don't know how the process for Nigerians, but for me, I went to Belgium with a tourist visa in July and we applied for family reunification from municipal but they informed us third world countries are not allowed to apply from Belgium if one of the family member is not Belgian since 2011. So I came back to Turkey and applied for family reunification visa from my home country. We are both Turkish.

Hi Ravenborn, actually there is no other option except following the process which they want. So only option is to apply and wait. We already passed 2 months and I'm checking ibz website everyday. I hope we can get our visa as soon as possible.. We didn't pass any interview or legaslation process. We just followed the process to apply family reunification visa.. we are both non eu. We provided all documents and started to wait. If you are both non eu, you should apply from your home country but if one of you is Belgian, as I know, you can apply from the municipal where you will live in Belgium. Best is to ask municipal or the visa center in your country.

Hi all, until today I was able to check our visa status from this page. The status was processing. But today when I check it shows as it didn't go to the immigration office. It shows the screen before processing status started to show. Do you know what does it mean?

Application on聽 7 October
Received in IBZ on 29 October
Decision: "waiting for additional documents" on 24 November - it only showed today, next day, (25 Nov) on the actual website

So there is activity.

My question is: how will they contact me requesting the specific documents? Email or regular POBox mail, etc? and when should I expect the contact after the website post??

Our timeline:
12 Agu application VFS
1 Oct showed IBZ - in treatment

24 Nov , today , we are still waiting for an answer.

I sent an email last week to ask situation and they replied me that they are checking documents chronologically to be fair, and they cannot make a favor. Actually I didn't ask for a favor I just ask for is there an information about timeline, eg 4-6 weeks to be decided etc.. But they only said our dossier is in progress.

It has been 3.5 months since we first applied to VFS, I'm really stressful if a lockdown begins or because of the Christmas the process will take longer than usual.

Hello, IBZ's status changed 7 days ago to "waiting for additional documents to support ... " but NO ONE contacted me yet. HOW WILL they reach out to me? via the Consulate/VFS or directly to my regular MAIL in Brussels ?? I am panicking and want this over before Covid kicks in again. Appreciate a response.

Hi VJ, we didn't get approval but our application status changed to "En attente de la r茅ception de documents 茅tayant la demande de visa envoy茅s par valise diplomatique par le poste diplomatique/consulaire." on 9th Dec. This is the first change, it's in treatment since 1 Oct. Now I wait someone will reach me about a document or something..

Yes we are talking about timeline.

I received an email from consulate that a document is needed by my husband and then I sent an email to ibz to learn what is needed. I wait for their answer. My husband鈥檚 permit will end at the end of January, i think they will request new permit date or new id card copy.聽

But a friend of my husband informed us their family received their approval today, they applied at the middle of August after our application. So approval time is around 3.5-4 months..

Hi VJ, as they are applied at around 19 August to VFS, it seems after they applied to VFS 4 months later they received it but I don't know when they are registered to IBZ. But of course cases can differ as ours.

Hello SimCityAT, thanks for reminding this. Everybody in this thread knows each case is different. This is a forum page and people share their experiences and knowing that someone is waiting like you gives hope and talking about the situation make people feel comfortable.

Sharing experience means so much. For example if someone from this thread didn't tell me that I should contact the embassy before they reach me, even it passed two weeks, they won't call me about the doc which is required by my husband.

I would like to tell you that please "speak a good word or remain silent".

This is a reply which I wrote another thread:

You can check your application numbers from the website which is you filled your online application form: After login, you'll see a number there next to your submitted application under application number: BEL01000000000.... the number at the end, for example 111111. click to this Link and choose the city you applied and put this 111111 to first empty area and then click cherchez le dossier, you'll see the result/status . But remember that it can take to 4-6 weeks to see a result in this website after your application. I start to see my result after 7 weeks. Hope this helps. Have a good day.

Hi,
I want to know if I need to submit and leave my passport to the embassy during the processing time (6 months). I travel a lot, is there a workaround so I can still travel while my application for D visa is ongoing?

it's always doable if you ask the embassy, but you've to tell them and explain you've to travel during the visa request.
You'll then have to provide full copy of your passport + stamp of your commune/city to proof it's not a fake copy (better)

But basically they'll only give you the answer of the visa request when you bring back your passport.

If it's denied, they'll stamp your passport with the date to know that you've already requested a visa and it was denied.
If it's granted, to glue the visa

We have received the visa application and it is currently being treated. Normally the treatment period is 9 months (maximum 15 months) from the date stated on the proof of submission. As soon as a decision is taken it will be communicated by the diplomatic post which will invite the visa applicant and give the decision.

9 months is a lot.

Dear all,
Thanks for sharing your stories. I think this is a stressful process for all of us.

I am a chilean expat working in Belgium (A card).
My chilean wife applied to obtain the visa D, in the frame of famility reunification, on 14.12.2021.
This demand has been registered at IBZ on 24.12.2021. The status "En traitement" appears since then.

I am really worried if the process would really take 9 months. This long period is a challenge.

Will keep you posted on our applcation status.

Dear Felipe, you are lucky that registration is made in 12 days. I waited 1,5 months to see it on ibz website. The longest waiting period is 9 months but usually as I see people get it in 3.5-4 months but who knows

When it comes to mutuality, I am not sure which one is the best. I have CM since they had an office close聽 to my place.

You just need to go to a mutuality's office and ask for enrollment.

I have heard that Partena is "more friendly" with expats, but I have no evidence on this.

I use Paterna, the new name is helan.

I have been suing Paterna since my 2015. Any time I am in Belgium, I till go back to them. I haven't tried any other mutuality so I can't say.
