The TRO is a popular option for non-EU citizens to get a D visa. However, it requires that you have a limited company elsewhere, which has been in existence for 2 years. (I'm not sure of the exact requirements, but I believe it has to be somewhat active, I doubt it can be a completely dormant company.)

The TRO route is the most complex/expensive, as it requires several steps (I've given VERY approximate costs, but you need to discuss and agree a package price with your attorney, depending on exactly what assistance you want).

- register your foreign corporation in Bulgaria as a TRO, perhaps 1,000 euros

- prepare your D visa application, on the basis of your approved TRO registration (you file it personally at your local Bulgarian Embassy), perhaps 500 euros

- after entering Bulgaria with your D visa, apply for your biometric residence permit, perhaps 1,000 euros

You should note the TRO is just a registration (and used only to get your D visa and residence permit). Typically, you would also incorporate a Bulgarian company (EOOD) to trade, maybe another 400 euros.

As a bit of extra info, I'm including a link to the Bulgarian business registry (BCCI) so you can see the kind of corporate documentation they will want you (and your attorney) to provide.
