"Bulgaristan" strikes again!

For those members who don't follow the local media, this article in one Bulgarian news site might prove interesting:聽

It turns out that the BG government has been paying out for free roadside assistance for all citizens since at least 2015, to the tune of 鈧7million A MONTH - to a company run by a convicted criminal with the Mutra-style nickname "The Potato".聽 Through some "oversight" or other, no one has ever thought to inform the Bulgarian public that they are already paying for this service, and Mr Spud has not only been running a fleet of his own breakdown trucks but also illegally subcontracting to companies run by his associates.聽 Needless to say, those breaking down or involved in accidents on the roads are being charged through the nose for the pleasure of being "recovered".聽 The article also has internal links to other reports of outrageous charges for vehicle recovery.

As I've mentioned before, SBA (the BG equivalent of the AA/RAC) charge only 鈧64 a year for their breakdown recovery service, which includes a free "Pregled" (MOT) - or 鈧100 if you want Europe-wide coverage.
