Repeat prescriptions

Anniebee303

Hi
In the process of planning to move to Bulgaria and wanted to ask how easy it is to get repeat prescriptions for ongoing health conditions (high blood pressure and hypothyroidism)
In the UK I get these monthly automatically with a 6 monthly check up.
What is the process in BG please?

You can buy most medicines over the counter at most pharmacies inexpensively. I bought a month's supply of Levothyroxine for a couple of Lev. If you want regular check ups you will need to sign up with a local doctor.

Most repeat prescriptions are not an issue, but it depends on the abuse potential of the drug.

For example, I was on zoloft for 6 months. My doctor wrote me 1 prescription and I just kept it and went back in with it each time my meds ran out. For this they never even checked my ID. (And after the first two months they knew me when I came in). The one prescription lasted me six months and would have lasted me longer if I needed it.

I was also on clonareks, which has a higher abuse potential. My doctor had to prescribe it on a special prescription paper (a big green form rather than the normal white slips), and I had to get it filled within a week. They take the prescription and enter it into an electronic database, checking it against your ID card. For that, I got a prescription each month.
