Mr David Barry - finding English teaching jobs in Bulgaria

davidbarryj

I am a British citizen, currently living in Poland. I wish to ask about finding English teaching jobs in Bulgaria. I am qualified with experience. I also wish to inquire about visas too now since Brexit.
Thank you.
Best Regards,
David.

Greetings Mr. David Barry... And welcome to the board...

Post-Brexit it's a lot more difficult for Brits to relocate to Europe. In Bulgaria, as non-EU citizens, we must first get a D visa (at Bulgarian embassy nearest you), then apply for residence in Bulgaria. And D visas are not very easy, except for students and pensioners.

However, if you are "living" in Poland, another EU country, then perhaps you got your official Poland residence permit already? If so, it might be better to consider sticking it out until you can get your permanent residence (usually after 5 years) there.

That would get you a "Long Term EC Resident's Residence Permit". And this gives you Freedom of Movement to live and work in any EU country, pretty much as an EU citizen.

Separately, there are many English teaching jobs in larger BG cities Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna. But they will probably be reluctant until you have a BG residence permit and the right to work here.

The pay is quite low too. In the order of 15 leva/hr or less. You might find it's more rewarding to work remotely with Chinese students (usually via DaDaABC or similar) for perhaps $15-25/hr.
