Planning the move and panicking

Ok so I鈥檓 being paranoid after my parents moving my family to France as a child. The area loathed outsiders (English, French, anyone from outside their village). Someone even tried to trick me into adopting my son when he was newborn because he was born to that village. Therefore 1 of them! I didn鈥檛 speak enough French then. My brother was fluent and dragged the person out understanding what was being said. Scary as I was being told it was to get him a place at the nursery for when he鈥檚 old enough!
I absolutely loved France and regretted moving back to the uk. So, plan has been to move out of the uk since.

I鈥檓 now a single mother with 3 kidos. 19,12 and 18 months.

I can鈥檛 afford France with 3 kids on my wage. We could survive not thrive so that鈥檚 a no no unfortunately.

Bulgaria ticks most of the boxes. I鈥檝e bought a house in a village in the belene region.

I鈥檓 planning the move for next year. Visa depending obviously. I woke up panicking about the most rediculas things. Like, we will be taking 2 ponies with us that are fat spoilt pets that simply drive us insane .
I鈥檓 worried we will be hated because we have ponies and do nothing with them.

I鈥檓 worried my sons mental health will be an issue. As in people will be unkind to him because of it. He is loud and has a very short temper wit me (no One else). He comes across very badly. I understand and parent him accordingly. I鈥檝e bought a 2 house property with the idea he will have his own house so this should help a lot with that.

Im worried how my 18 month old daughter will be treated with her lists (I mean lists) of allergies.

We will be producing as much of our food as possible for her health. But people can be cruel even to babies can鈥檛 they (sad truth after living in France).

I鈥檓 worried how we will be accepted as me being a
Single mum. I want my kids to have a fun childhood that鈥檚 not full of locals hating us because I kicked an abusive man out of our lives (I don鈥檛 need his permission to move because the court removed his parental rights and won鈥檛 allow him any access to my kids as I鈥檓 sure someone will make me aware I need his permission to relocate us. I have spoken to multiple solicitors 馃槉).

I鈥檓 sure I鈥檓 just having 1 of what will be many wobbles about the move.

If I wasn鈥檛 taking the ponies I wouldn鈥檛 worry so much. I鈥檇 know I could load the car with us all and it鈥檚 all sorted ). Ponies are family so that鈥檚 not possible

Hi Suzi,

Totally understand your worries, children & pets are our life blood, as it should be.
We moved to Bulgaria back in October & so far it鈥檚 been pretty good. There鈥檚 always a transition period, feeling a little alien in a foreign country but having lived in France already I鈥檓 sure you will breeze through that. I can鈥檛 speak personally about children as my daughter is older & lives in the uk. But I鈥檓 sure that there are other members on here who can share their experiences.
I won鈥檛 worry about your ponies, they are precisely that, your ponies! What I have noticed is that Bulgarians tend to keep animals for a purpose in the village we live in. The dogs protect the chickens & guard the property, the chickens provide the eggs & meat. The horses plough the fields etc. We recently got a puppy & I do get odd looks from the neighbours when I take her for a walk on her lead as most dogs are either chained up or roam freely. That鈥檚 the biggest difference, we have pets & the locals have working animals.
Get yourself a good immigration lawyer, I can recommend one if you want, and take the leap if you feel ready. Life is pretty good here & like anywhere, there are good & bad people, but the good definitely outweigh the bad.

Good luck in your new adventure x

Hi Suzy

I am a Belgium woman who moved summer 2021 to Bulgaria with all my stuff all by myself as a single, i rented a het use for a year and than look to buy a house in a surrounding that i like, and i found it and hope to move to the boarder of greece and turkey

Until today i do not regret any step i made

The funny part is that my daughter is on the phone every dat and she decided to move also to bulgaria with husband and 14 months old son

Her son has an allergy of milk and egss

Even when there is a small sign of egg in the food he gets into schock and they need to give this injection immediatly and habe to be in a hospital within half hour

Do if you have als these troubles with your youngest one make sure your are in a range of half hour of a hospital

To find products without eggs is no trouble, but a search

Most of the bulgarian people are very family oriented and there are good and bad people as
There are in every country

This is a little bit what i have to tell you that even people around ttheir 30s move to bulgaria
With a child with allergic risks

I spent 3 years investigating where to live in a country with my retirement as a single, and it became bulgaria without regrets

Wish you all the luck xx

I'd say moving the ponies and getting residence are the only really tough bits, now that Brexit "is done".

hi suzi welcome,

we too had our worries and concerns and are late starters as bought our shack 16 years ago and did very little until now when we decided to move away from the uk for many reasons. i have not found anyone difficult towards our children abd have been coming to bulgaria with them most years . concerning your pets i expect the locals will love them as they will want to use the manure fir their gardens.

if you need any other advice let me know in a pm as we know builders and others that may be able to assist you at some point.

kind regards paul
Hi Suzi, have you have been to Bulgaria yet?

I worry about your questions. You would know how your children feel out here if you had brought them over for a while at least. That is before deciding to relocate?

Many before you thought Bulgaria is the solution to their problems. Often it compounds them.

Have yourself a holiday in Bulgaria before moving over with your children and ponies.

You cannot just pack up your car and move into most Bulgarian homes. There will always be some groundwork needing done first.
