The "60 day rule" vs the "183 day rule"

Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on this situation for me as I'm a little confused.

Apparently, as of last year, Cyprus now has a "60-day rule" for those who reside in the Republic for 60+ days. The requirements of this are that you cannot be a tax resident of any other state and must not live in another state for any longer than 183 days of the year.

While I completely understand the above, what I am perplexed about is the "183-day rule". Apparently, it still stands in Cyprus; as does the new 60-day rule.

So, my question is: What's the difference and which one would apply to me?

To lend you some insight into my situation, I plan on staying a tax resident of the UK while I visit Paphos for 3-6 months this year to get a "feel" for living in Cyprus.

If I love it, I'll come back to the UK to prepare myself to move out there towards the end of the year. And if I don't like it (hope not!), obviously, I'll head back home.

as long as you are EU nationals it wont apply = brexit withstanding although it has to be said things may change after brexit as UK nationals may then be considered as Third Country Nationals after March 2019 and that could be a whole new ball game.

a link to where you read the 60 days rule would be helpful

EU nationals can reside as a visitor / tourist here without hindrance for 90 days and for upto 183 days without being tax resident as long as you dont work.....

i think the fact that you ARE聽 tax resident in the UK and you DO reside normally in UK makes a massive difference to the application of this rule to you

the 60 day rule is not important for you in this situation. Its more for people that WANT to be tax residents of cyprus because cyprus has much lower tax as the uk for example.

For example if people travel a lot have a flat rented in cyprus and only come for 2 month in summer, they can still be tax residents. (as long as they dont stay anywhere else for more then 183 days.
