Grandfather, or zedzee, zedzi

Hello,

I used to call my grandfather Zedzee. I asked my father why and he said his grandparents came from Czechoslovakia and it was passed down. Translations of grandfather to Czech just aren't close to the sound of Zedzee. Can someone shed any light onto this word?

@David US/Au hey there... That's maybe a lost in translation situation.

In cz, grandpa is called d臎de膷ek (sounds: jedechek), as the ending of the words change form when it is used in different situations you can hear variations such as d臎do (sounds: Jedo)

In sk, it's similar word, not a big variation. But there, dad is called ocko (sounds: otzko) when changes to diminutive sounds ozzy. Perhaps with the traveling, the sound of "d臎d膷i" morphed into "zedzee" - "zedzi"
