in desperate need for some answers as struggling to get information off the net and from danish agency. Do you know what the rules are for getting married as an au pair in Denmark to a EU citizen residing in Denmark. We will be apply for family reunification once we are married but will I need to terminate my au pair contract once I am married or dose need to be done before hand or can I be married and continue as an au pair in my notice period.... also who do I inform of the termination if this is the case.

It's easy to be married in Denmark. You can get married everywhere in Denmark, just as you like. However, if the goal is to get a family reunification, it's quite another matter, the rules to obtain a residence permit are indeed very strict, and whether you are married or not, that will make no difference if that's the real purpose by marrying.

Some agencies offer their assistance, but personally I would save my money and do the paperwork myself.

Regarding your au pair status, do contact SIRI. You're always welcome to do so, but be aware that they receive 1,500 questions daily, why you must arm yourself with patience.

Only one of the required documents could require legalisation: my partner's passport.

However, we are not sure whether the legalisation requirement applies to passports too, or only to other documents which we don't need to produce in our particular case, such as Civil Status Certificate or Documentation of Previous Marriage.

The official guidelines do not express any distinction between documents with respect to legalisation.

However, other non-official sources seem to imply that legalisation is not required for passports:

Hi everyone, since this your answers were very useful in the past, I thought to ask another question.

My partner and I submitted a joint application to familieretshuset.dk

The response was very quick (5 days) and positive:

"We have reached the decision that you meet the criteria for a Certificate of marital status, so you can get married in Denmark."

However, only my partner received a response, while I received nothing, besides the notification of submission in the moment we sent the application. Zero.

Is this normal?
