The Danes are notoriously slow to warm up to new people.  Once you make friends with a Dane, though, that Dane will be your friend for life.  But it's definitely a slow process.  In the meantime, you may have better luck finding out where the British expats hang out.  The expat communities are fairly active, and (in my experience) are quite welcoming.

i volunteer in a soup kitchen with half international students and half danes. though they were all friendly, the former welcomed me into the fold right away but it took 6 months to get together with the danes outside of the soup kitchen. we are all good friends now, but damn it took a long time! (;

if you want to get a cup of coffee, i'm not a dane but i'm up for it. i live in nørrebro.

Been here for over 6 years. Tried to get Danish friends at start, didn't work out, and now happy with my foreign friends. Why does nationality matter when you want to find a friend?

Been in Denmark for over 4 months, still few friends, some Danish  starting to feel homesick. And this weather is not exactly perfect. (I'm from AZ U.S. ) so I doubt I will be staying, even with the best of friends. The weather is a major factor.

Sotiii, coming from Norway, you should be okay.  You've seen the Scandinavian culture a bit, so it will be less of a shock.

I will say, though, that Danes (and Scandinavians in general) bit insular.  With the shorter days, Danes spend less time out and about, and therefore less time being social.  My plan for the winter is to focus on my friendships with expats.

Despite being a really social, friendly guy, it took my husband about 6 months to start making good friends with Danes.  It just takes patience.

Since I'm a Dane I felt I had to comment on this one. :-)

Well, in some way you (ThisGirlSaysOw) are right. Danes follow some "traditions" when it comes to making friends. But the funny thing is (and this coming from an insider) that these traditions aren't the same across the country.
To those of you who live in Copenhagen, you're in luck, because that's the place where it's easy to make friends (also the wrong ones by the way).
Depending on the situation it can be very easy making friends here actually. But it very much depends which business or studies you're in.
In general you can say that Danish people are very open, liberated and broadminded. This is something we're also aware of, and therefor often afraid of stepping on someone's toes.
It's difficult to explain. But it's one of these things where you as foreigners have to use your intuition. (Most people here know that foreigners have customs that are differant from ours and won't hold it against you). In South Europe people are yelling loud when we are talking - and the other way around of course.
My advise: See it as a fun experince. :-)

I have experienced one years in Norway, and i found very very hard to socialise with Norsk people!  they are more than cold!
I will move to Cph nesxt month, lot of people always says that will be much better experience! so i am starting looking for some new friend in Cph area, so..nice to meet everyone!!!!

Being a dane (living abroad though)and have lived in many cities in DK, I agree that making new friends in DK is bit uphill. The Danes would often have an extreme border between work and private life and therefore, making friend on the work is challenging. The social life in Denmark happens in the various communities, music, sport etc. Therefore if you wish to join in, I really suggest entering a soccer club, a music school, start kite surfing etc. people here are more open in their working environment.

We are good people, so dont be scared:-) But dont expect the work/life balance to be changed some soon (sorry)
