Looking for Program / Project Management Roles in Germany

hkplnuls

Dear forum members,

My name is Hakan, and I’m a project management professional with a strong academic background in international and European affairs.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and two Master’s degrees in European Politics and Legal Studies—one from Marmara University (Türkiye) and another from the University of Hamburg (Germany). I have around 10 years of professional experience as a Project Management Officer (Project Expert) at a regional development agency in Türkiye, where I worked on program implementation, coordination, and project monitoring in line with public and EU-funded frameworks.

In addition, I have international study exchange experience in Poland and Lithuania. I speak Turkish (native), English (advanced), Spanish (intermediate), and German (beginner, actively improving).

I am currently and seriously seeking opportunities in Germany as a Program/Project Management Officer or Program/Project Assistant in related fields. I am highly motivated to integrate, further develop my professional skills, and build a long-term career in Germany.

If you think my profile could be relevant or if you have advice, leads, or opportunities to share, I would be very happy to connect. Thank you in advance for your time and support.

Best regards,

Hakan

Welcome to the forum!

You won't find a job on this forum, but maybe some useful advice on how to search for one.

Let me start: I had a look at your post above, and your profile. I came to the following conclusions:

  1. The main parameters influencing your chances (outside of specific niches like IT) are visa and language skills.
  2. You did not mention if you have a German visa allowing work. If not, try to get one before you apply for jobs!
  3. You mention your German skills as "beginner". If after two years of studying in Hamburg you are still at that level, it will be seen as negative. Try to improve it to B2 or better C1 level before you apply!
  4. Programme and Project Management roles exist in many industries, and all require specific industry or technical knowledge. It is not clear from your post where you would fit in. Identify in which industry you could best contribute and look for opportunities there!
  5. Realize that, because you are non-EU-citizen with imperfect language abilities, you will always be at a disadvantage compared to equally skilled locals. What do you have to offer to set you apart from (and make you better than) them? Focus your search on these areas!
  6. Despite Germany's reputation of low nepotism and graft, connections still matter when it comes to jobs. Build a network in your target industry through friends of friends, professional networks like Linkedin and Xing and attend appropriate trade fairs, conferences and seminars as much as possible!

Last not least: Good luck! (You also need that to find a job, of course!)

I fully agree that this forum is mainly a place for guidance rather than direct job offers, but I also see expat.com as a valuable space to exchange experiences and build meaningful connections. Thank you for your constructive advice; I am actively exploring options such as the Chancenkarte for graduates, and given my international academic and professional background, I adapt quickly—especially in environments with a positive and open attitude, including language [link under review] the same time, I am sharpening my focus on sectors such as e-commerce, various industrial projects including textile investments where my 10 years of experience in regional development can add clear value, drawing on a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from institutional capacity building under technical assistance, investment promotion, and project development for both public and private sectors, to partnership and cooperation initiatives, consultancy work, and sectoral feasibility studies in the region’s leading industries, while consciously strengthening my professional network.
