@fluffy2560 true, the grass and trees look pitiful. There's nice green grass in our street cause people keep watering it every morning. Desert just around the corner

I'm in the UK at the moment and I happened to walk around a golf course with a dog and it's just dire.聽 The fairways are brown and dead and there is little greenery except the very largest trees.聽聽The brush is likely to burn at the drop of a hat.聽聽Our grass in HU is dead but not like the greens here.聽聽They are introducing hose pipe bans here, rivers are very low, and reservoirs look empty.

It wasn't so warm this morning but houses and apartments are not built for warmer weather.聽

British houses are rubbish really.聽聽They build far better houses in Europe.

When the sun comes out, it's like a sauna inside.聽 No airco either!

It is pretty brutal without a/c these days! We have one upstairs and are about to have one installed downstairs too. Plus it is good to have an extra heating option if needed besides gas heat (never know).

I would imagine the English houses built with massive stone walls keep the temperature bearable. In America, Jersey coast houses are (even in high-end buildings) not nearly as insulated as our house in Hungary. Without an air conditioner, you'll probably die.

We live in North Yorkshire; the house was built in the '70s; it has been retrospectively cavity wall insulated and has A+ double glazing and doors all around.聽 Never felt the need for air-conditioning, but we are going to add some modern blinds that work to reflect heat either in or out.

27掳C here today which is just right but by the end of the week, we are expecting a heatwave hitting 37掳C. They keep on promising a thunderstorm. So we will have to see.聽

My parents' house is a typical red bricks 30 years old house. I'd always found it quite humid and colder which was cool during summer, not so much in winters (-10掳C and below), it was energy consuming to heat it all up. My parents decided to add an outer walls insulation (I don't really know how the material is called in English) 13 years ago, which made the house much warmer, the energy costs for heating decreased, altogether with changing the old wood-framed windows for the "plastic" ones. It all felt really nice at first, but suddenly these hot summers and mild winters came, except for few days when the temp still drops below -10掳C. While it is nice warm in the house in the wintertime, it's heck hot in the summertime. So I guess they'd have to invest in the a/c anytime soon. I guess each period of time brings different building styles. If we knew what we know now, we'd never get the house insulated. Or we'd build a different type of house, or shape, used different material. I don't even know what I'm blabbering about but someone might get what i actually mean

Yes, in June I needed to go to the Croatia coast for a couple of days. I chose an apartment listed as having air conditioning but when we got there it was just a small unit in the landing /聽 hallway which seemed to do very little apart from make a lot of noise.聽 It was the top floor of the building and聽 the sweat poured off me every minute I was in the place.

I think those nice classic adobe homes that were built in places like AZ and NM were the best for keeping cool in hot weather.

My beauty salon was inside one of these older adobe homes in NM and I never had to turn on the A/C.

So far in Budapest I'm fine with just a fan on.

Maybe it's old age but I'm actually cold on some summer nights and use a comforter on the bed.

New British houses are made out of "simple materials" - often with wooden frames with an outer skin of brick cladding.聽 Any inner walls are made out of what are called breeze blocks - kind of moulded shapes made from recycled materials.聽

These days, they are聽 heavily insulated but for keeping the heat in but it doesn't work in very hot summers where it needs good airflow and possibly airco.聽聽

The weather in the UK is usually mild without聽 heavy snow or cold. It's mainly damp and drizzle with dips below zero.聽聽We seem to be moving to warmer and drier winters and summers.

Big heavy stone walls you might find in castles and old country houses but not in new housing developments of which there seems to be many being built all the time all over the place.聽 It's not like Hungary where individually built houses are the norm.聽 Mainly it's commercial developments built by large construction companies.聽 These can be a few hundred to a few thousand homes - changing demographics are causing a shift with more single person homes.

In my Dad's village, they are building a perhaps 500-600 new homes. It's changing the nature of the place - more industrial development, shopping centres and supermarkets with pressure on local services like roads and healthcare not always matching the change in population.

It's not that warm here in the UK but it's very sticky and humid.聽

Mrs F was talking of going to but don't know when.聽 We're back to Balaton in a week - hope it's not too hot there as I wanted to do some cycling.聽 Anything over about 27C is too much for me on the bike.

You're right!

I was in the UK yesterday and there was a light breeze and it was 27C or so.聽 I thought I was hot there but here today at over 30C, it's very uncomfortable with hot air blasting us.聽 Maybe the high wind is reaching us from the Sahara for some reason.聽 I see on the forecast, possibility of rain next week but not very much of it.聽 We need some consistent rain for a few days to take care of the plants.聽

On the other hand, it's only 4 months until Christmas.

UK is becoming drier and hotter - more like Mediterranean climate.聽聽 I notice in the South there are more vineyards popping up and expansion of existing ones.聽聽But there's talk of water issues and desalination plants which is a huge energy drain.聽 It is however usually very windy and we have .聽聽Maybe they will desalinate using spare energy.

People complain about the offshore windfarms as being an eyesore but when I ask people there about them, they all like them. I don't know what they are complaining about - it's green, looks interesting and powers their homes.

I wouldn't mind a Mediterranean climate up here; currently 19C and partly cloudy.聽 We have been extremely lucky since the big heatwave, in as much as we've had a lot of rain and only this morning while out with the dog I was trying to relate what I read/see in the press that tells me everywhere is brown/burnt, while our grass and fields around here are a lovely green (without irrigation).聽 Perhaps Yorkshire Water learnt the lessons of the drought up here in the mid-'90s; I know they put in a lot of pipes to move water from further North.聽 We have 2 of the Smith family breweries not far from us, they get their water from their own private wells that they've had in the family since the mid-1800s.

Outlook is for it to warm up a bit on Wednesday with temperatures up to 28C, with similar conditions for the next 7 days after that

Looks like a week of very hot weather - forecast is showing 37 C.聽聽

Mrs F and I were out in the forest and things are looking very dry and crispy.聽

Our garden is beginning to look like a desert.聽

All the grass is looking desiccated.

Our lawn is yellow, we keep on being promised rain, yesterday we had a few drops, Alexa has said there is a 51% chance of rain at Noon. I can't see that happening.

We have a week of a cool spell of 24-26掳C. But it's getting hotter again hitting 37掳C next week.

We are lucky we have no wildfires.

Our lawn is yellow, we keep on being promised rain, yesterday we had a few drops, Alexa has said there is a 51% chance of rain at Noon. I can't see that happening.

We have a week of a cool spell of 24-26掳C. But it's getting hotter again hitting 37掳C next week.

We are lucky we have no wildfires.

Only 30cm under the keel and having to reduce loads on the barges.聽

I should have started my water storage project earlier.聽 Who knows how long this could go on.

Yep, some barges that make 1 trip are having to make 4 trips just so they can sail without a heavy load. Some just can not even make it now.

Spain is just as bad with its reservoirs.

We went to Jegenye waterfall in Solym谩r today, hard to call it waterfall and the river bed is completely dry, not even a drop of water. One can only imagine what it looks like on better days

That's not good.

There's a spring there but the water is contaminated with e-coli and undrinkable.

It's a shame as it's the closest natural spring to our house.

Yes, I saw the news report.聽 Transporting like 500 tonnes instead of 2000 tonnes.聽 And coal is being shipped more due to power issues in Germany.

We're going to Balaton and it's already brutal in the sun here.聽 The water level is far too low there. I think there's a chance of algae forming and it becoming lifeless.聽 Government has been known to restrict supply into Balaton and has cocked it up more than once.

BTW, I've heard they are going to start cutting more trees in the forest for fuel - was 10%, now will be 20%.聽 That sounds bad to me.聽聽

If that wasn't enough, according to Mrs F the HU government is hinting at school closures and home learning again for winter.聽 They are blaming it on COVID but the real reason is to cut back on gas and electricity costs.

We saw many people with dogs, I hope they didn't let them drink from what's left of the streams. It was nice walk though, in the shadows. It'd be much nicer with the water and all but... oh well, it is what it is

Down here at Balaton, this afternoon we had thunder and rumbling.聽 Floating about on the lake we could see rain dropping on the North side but nothing here on the South side.聽 The warning signals were flashing.聽 The water level is really low.聽 It takes a good 10 minutes walking to get to decent depths - like chest height.聽聽

I was planning cycling but it's all in the early to mid-30s. IMHO, far too hot for mountain biking.聽 Mid-20s more like it.聽 During the night though, it's all very reasonable - like early 20s.聽 This morning I was up at 0730h and I had to put a hoodie on as it was even a bit chilly.

Yesterday on the north shore of lake Balaton was really hot until 9 in the evening. Wonder if it ever rain again?! My beautiful cherry tree is dying 馃槥

Having 37掳C decided to enjoy the weather, and took the misses out for a meal after she finished work. I must have been home 5 minutes and it had changed. Total of 5 deaths.....聽 from lightening and falling trees聽

Our current week in Balaton is in its last stages and it looks like the weather will break tomorrow or on Sunday.聽聽

The sun is not out this morning so marginally lower temperatures.聽 It won't be that cold of course but the heavens will open and we will have heavy rain - at least according to the forecast. I am looking forward to some change.聽

When we go back home, it's almost the start of school, at least getting organised for it.聽聽 People will be back at work and the brakes will be off again at least until Xmas.

We were at the yesterday and it closes down 28 August, a sure sign of the season coming to an end.聽聽

Mrs F knows people around here and they were saying it was less busy.聽 People don't have聽 money to come on holiday and eat out in restaurants and ice cream shops or go to attractions.
