Sudden contract termination

Hi everybody,

just simple question. My contract was suddenly terminated, without warning, and I do not know what I can expect now. Does Maltese law have golden handshake or something? Or just I have 14 days of leave and thats all?

No I work for them more than year. I did not received contract only confirmation letter that I Am employed for indefinite duration.

I guess no contract will mean no job security.
Talk to聽 an employment lawyer (just an hours worth of paid advise is worth pages of uninformed conjecture).

The phrase 'indefinite duration' is the crux of the issue.
That's what is states and that's what they've done.
There is no golden handshake or smth like this in Malta. All that employer has to do is:
1. To issue the warning for employee about the end of the employment. Notice period depends on the number of years employed
2. To pay the severance payment, depends on the number of years employed.

In your case, if the employment was 1-2 years, both issues are immaterial.

If it's a lockout - there are some other rules.
If you would have definite contract and the employer wants to break it before the final date - he should pay you half of the salary till the end of the employment period.

In case of indefinite contract - just a notice and small severance payment.

There is NO contract in this case.

Who works without contract unless paid in cash ;)?
