I'm a non EU member about to leave Malta coz of these work permit issues.
I have been paying FSS & Social Security Contributions. Can I reclaim my taxes?

Hi,

My bet would be : NO

Taxes are paid to cover the general running of a state and all residents profit from the services offered while you live in the country.

I'm British and lived and paid taxes in Germany for for 40 years before I came to Malta.It聽 would be great if I could claim them all back.

The same goes for Social Security payments like health coverage.

I'm sorry you have to leave the island because of these issues. May I ask which non-EU country you are from ?

I'm also curious - what is your area of work, if you don't mind me asking? I've given my employer a heads up on the 4 year thing, and they are convinced that as I am 'specialised' I'll be ok....

Hi
You have to check if yor country have agreement with Malta about ''double taxation''. If ''yes'' you can have your taxes back from Malta - but you will have to pay tax anyway from this amount in your country.
I'm talking about income taxes - I have no idea about social security tax.

I hope you are ' special' enough.If I hear anything about this permit ' problem' I'll pass it on to you.

Malta does not have a double taxation agreement with Uganda but it is an interesting comment.Especially if you move to a country with a lower tax rate than Malta and a double taxation agreement. Oooops ! Is there such a country ? The tax offices will always get you - this way or that way.

I doubt whether taxes can be claimed back only the social security and pension.

I would check this . I know that if you go from an EU to a Non EU country its possible to claim a percentage of the social security contributions paid to the state.

Your pension is in any event yours you need to check with your fund on how they transfer it out.

The issue is the paperwork and the fact that most of this is not advertised as any country prefers the people to just leave without taking it out.
