Credit checking.

SunshineLover2011

Hi,

When a non Maltese citizen applies for a loan etc,do they do a Maltese check or one from their homeland ? For example,if one moves does their good UK credit count for anything in Malta?

Thanks.

No - but they may write to your bank for information on how you have run account
Worth noting hsbc for example want you to have lived in Malta for around 2-3 years before they will lend to you

and don t even bother asking for a credit card or loan - they will require you to have sufficient funds static in the account to the value of your loan and / or credit limit...

Lol,kind of defeats the purpose in most applications then !

Why ! Having a credit card in Malta just means that you give the bank a credit -)))

Makes sense and gives meaning to the word credit card. At least for the bank.

Welcome to Malta.

Well, maybe you should bring the money that you don't have in the bank with you  -)))

Unless you show money there is no way Maltese banks are going to give you money or credit !.

Maltese banks are very funny and sceptical with foreigners!  It is probably easier to get a loan from a Scottish bank before you come. The interest rates are probably better in Scotland.  If that doesn't work then it will be difficult.

But that is the usual problem with banks ........if you don't need the money they keep on offering it. When you need money they have problems with you.

If you owe the bank 1 million and can't pay you have a problem - if you owe the bank 100 million and can't pay they have a problem -)))

Best of luck
