Thanks for your answers, but I probably need to clarify the situation.

The utilities contract will end in mid-August but I will leave the house at the end of August.
As I see it, if I want to still use gas and electricity after mid-August, I need to sign a new contract for the utilities. That would mean having to cancel it at the end of August when I will leave the house.

The problem is not with the contract for the house, it's with the one for the utilities.
Is there a way to keep using gas and electricity for the last two weeks of August  without signing a new contract?

Have your gas and electric supply companies told you this?

No you don't have to sign a new contract for your utillities for those two weeks. Just terminate the contract at the date when you are moving out and you have your gas and electricity untill that date.

You can always call the company and ask your question of course
