Visiting Amsterdam for the first time,anyone interested in some coffee

LadyFrench

Hi guys,

I love travelling on my own , mostly to countries were they speak English, French and Spanish. In this case ,if i get lost i would always find my way and manage to go to the right places.

However, i have never been to Amsterdam and I don't speak Dutch. I was going to stay at Canal House but decided Dutch Design Artemis is a better option considering how much i am planning to spend out .

Obviously visiting the Van Gogh Gallery, some cafes, cycling,enjoying the canals if its not too cold, the infamous red light district etc is on the list .

I am in Amsterdam only for a few days from Friday 4th-6th Jan 2013 , so i would appreciate any help . How to get around i am awful with directions. How much your normal taxis cost (Not the London Black Cab type ) from the Schiphol airport to Dutch Design Artemis,Train Fares, what the people are like,Clubs to go etc

* Some relevant info : I'm from London , Female 26, like art,photography,wine,cafes, clubbing,sailing,socialising .. mostly the usual.

I am also interested in meeting travel companions, people travelling at the same time or any locals who can spare a minute for a coffee .

Thank you so much for your help.

Dank je wel !
