Hello, I am a 60 year old who is being pulled towards a major life change for multiple reasons. I am drawn to Northern Ireland. I work as a psychotherapist in the US and I specialize working with women who have experienced domestic violence. I would love to continue my work in Northern Ireland as it is meaningful and I have found that there is a Family Justice Center in Derry. I have a dog and want a new start, far away from US politics and a quieter, gentler life style. I don't quite know where to start!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

If you intend to work as a psychotherapist in Northern Ireland (or anywhere in the UK), you will need to have your qualifications assessed by the Health and Social Care Professions Council (HSCPC), they have a website where you can check out the how's and where's; this will take you straight to it and their home page includes links on how to contact them.

Once you have cleared that hurdle, you will need to find a job and the appropriate visa to enable you as a US citizen to work in the UK; this will take you to the UK Government website where you can begin that process.

One last place that may be worth a look is the LinkedIn website; try reaching out to your peers already working in the UK, they will know where there are jobs.

As for Londonderry; I must admit that it would not have been my first choice, but when I was there, things were very different than they are today.聽 Xenophobia is currently in the headlines in several towns in Northern Ireland, perhaps check out the local social media pages on Facebook etc.聽 You should be aware that Northern Ireland has a history of sectarian violence, it would be worthwhile doing your homework.

My Maternal Great Great Grandfather, Daniel Knilans, left Castlederg on the Derg River, April 30, 1849, with his wife Sara Allen, and their seven children, his family, to the United States. On May 1st, he and his family sail from Dublin on the Ship Senator to Liverpool on May 2nd, and then to New York City on 2nd of June, Ellis Island. And the family has spread west and south from Wisconsin to California. I have been elected to find the Family farm, some graves, and the family's history. Plus Photos. I have a copy of the "Passengers' Contract Ticket.聽 John Taylor Crook,聽 2 Tower Chamber, Old Church Yard, and 115, Waterloo Road, Liverpool ". We made a stop in Liverpool last year and found the dock. It is now a vast apartment building. We will take the ferry from Holyhead, UK, to Dublin and backtrack the wagon road to Castlederg on the Derg River. To the Derg Parish Church (St. John's of Ireland) to the grave of Daniel's sister. Per the Urney Civil Parish, Co.Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Burials 1839-1861. Which is a place to start. My Question is, by wagon in 1849, what would been the track?聽 John Lee
