Not importing a vehicle question

Strontium

Hi fellow travelers,

At the moment I am a UK resident but wish to spend sometime in Portugal and other EU places. Rules are rules so I can have 3 months (don't quibble on the exact maths please) in the EU but an vehicle can spend 6 months. So am thinking of thinking of using my ole reliable Citroen but at almost 3 months parking it off the highway on private land. Then selling it to a another UK resident who also needs to spend time in EU so has 3 months use of vehicle. UK "paperwork" is done online so don't even need to meet fellow resident.

Can anyone see an problem with this "I have an Plan"?

I'd check your plan with Portuguese IMT.

My suspicion is that there would be hurdles - if not downright roadblocks - in following your plan.

I'd also check the ability of any new owner to procure legitimate insurance for a vehicle not registered in Portugal.

Not sure it has anything to do with Portuguese IMT as car will be UK registered, both old and new owner will be UK residents with UK addresses where the change of UK ownership is done online. As also UK VED (car tax) and UK insurance (with driving in the EU clause) can be done online.  The only bit which looks like an issue, to me,  is to change the link of the registration to my credit card for auto tolls to a different credit card.
