Information about Golden Visa program

Hi everyone.聽 Can anyone give me any idea of the timeline for obtaining a Golden Visa?聽 聽I know I have to buy the property first, and THEN apply for the Visa.聽 聽How long does it take to obtain the Visa once you have started the application?聽 聽 Is it a 3 month process?聽 聽6 months?聽 聽I realize there are several steps involved, but I am not really sure how long it takes.聽 聽I know that once I have the property purchased, I am going to want to move ASAP, but I know it won't be that easy....

Thanks!

Are you planning to live in Portugal?聽 If so, the Golden Visa is unnecessary.聽 You can simply apply for a Residency Visa, with much less stringent requirements.聽 The Golden Visa is for foreigners who don't plan to live in Portugal.
Interesting.聽 聽It seemed like, from what I read, the Golden Visa was pretty easy.聽 聽All it required was a $500Euro property investment to obtain it....plus a lot of paperwork.聽 聽We do plan on living in Lisbon, but, since we will be retired, we would probably spend several months per year traveling throughout Europe in general.聽 聽But, yes, Lisbon would be our home base/residence.聽

I will look into the requirements for a Residency Visa, and compare the 2 of them.聽 ??

Thanks.

Jeff
Yes, it's easy, if you want to buy a 500 euro (600 USD) property without ever having lived here, knowing if you like it, knowing what the neighborhoods are like, etc.聽 Real estate agents will be happy to show you properties that are more than likely worth much less, but aimed at the Golden Visa customer, usually Chinese, who just wants to park some money here.聽 聽It's a personal decision, good luck.
I very much appreciate your input.聽 I did some more research into just a regular "Resident Visa" and it appears you are clearly 100% correct.聽 聽It is many, many thousands of dollars cheaper.聽 聽Since we do plan on living in Lisbon, this seems like the much less expensive, and much faster option.聽 It also allows us to maybe rent for a while before buying, so we can learn the neighborhoods much better.聽 聽

Thank you so much for your advice!!
You're quite welcome.聽 For the regular (non golden) visa, some of the consulates in the US (dependent on where you live) do require proof of an address in Portugal.聽 But a 6 month lease is less of a commitment than a huge capital outlay.聽 Best of luck to you.
