    A senior citizen looking to leave the USA. My grandparents and a parent were born in Scotland so am planning a trip there plus a return visit to Spain. I am hoping with my exploratory trip that I will choose a place for a return visit (for a few months ) in hopes of getting the feel for the country, or moving there. My research shows it is very difficult to obtain a residency visa in Scotland as a retiree. But it is my number one choice. Perhaps the love for cold rainy weather, hot tea is in my genes...  Grew up with Scottish grandparents and never realized "wee" was not actually American dialect and milk in hot tea was not the norm.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

The UK does not offer retirement type visas to any national, so your only real options are either some kind of work visa, or a visitor visa for a maximum of 6 months.  Whatever, all the visas available are listed on the UK Gov website; this will take you straight to it.

Perhaps a suitable alternative would be Ireland?  I'd recommend checking out the Irish Citizens Information website; this will take you straight to it.

Thank you very much and yes, had discovered the options were not in my favor. Thank you for verifying this as sometimes the information can be confusing but difficult to locate. Really wanted to find that loophole perhaps and with good retirement income as my advantage.  Appreciate your quick response as I plan my journey.

One other thing you could consider; you mentioned a parent born in Scotland, that in itself does not infer citizenship to that person's offspring, but there are such things known as Ancestry visas; this will take you to the UK Gov website that has the details.  They do not extend to your immediate family, but they could be the start, and it may be worthwhile speaking to a lawyer if you think you may qualify.
