I would say the best way is to take a drive up there and look.

They're both on the eastern side of Scotland; Kirkcaldy is a coastal town, but it's the opposite side of the Firth of Forth water way to Edinburgh, so makes the commute more complicated; over an hour by public transport, 45 minutes if you drive, but the peak time is very busy, so almost certainly take longer then.聽 Also, it the bridge goes out (happens sometimes), the commute is a nightmare.聽 My advice would be to look south of the river.
