Hello and welcome !

If you do not speak a little serbian, you might face some challenges. You also need to find out whether your degree is recognised in Serbia :

To find a job, you can then google search for schools or learning centres or browse through job portals :

All the best

As a non-native speaker, you may encounter greater difficulties than a native speaker of English .. or an American.

You should check visa requirements for possible limitations on country of origin.

Key Steps and Considerations

  1. Job Offer is Essential: The primary requirement for obtaining a work permit is a signed employment contract or a formal job offer from a Serbian-registered company. You generally cannot arrive on a tourist visa and then look for work.
  2. Unified Permit Process: Serbia has streamlined the process with a "Unified Permit" which combines the temporary residence and work authorisation into a single online application, reducing bureaucracy.
  3. Employer's Role: Your prospective employer plays a crucial role. They often have to demonstrate to the National Employment Service that no suitable local candidates are available for the position before hiring a non-EU national.

In-Demand Sectors:

Opportunities are most abundant in industries facing labor shortages. These include:

  1. IT and Technology: Software developers, data analysts, and project managers are in high demand, and English is often the working language in many tech firms.
  2. Construction & Skilled Trades: There is a significant need for carpenters, welders, plumbers, and general builders.
  3. Healthcare: Medical technicians, nurses, and doctors are sought after.
  4. Agriculture & Manufacturing: These sectors also require a steady supply of workers.

Language: While English is widely used in international companies and the IT sector, learning some basic Serbian will improve your daily life and can be necessary for roles in the service industry or for integrating into the local community.

Visa Requirements: As a Zambian citizen, you will need a Type D (long-stay) visa for the purpose of employment to enter Serbia and initiate the process for your unified residence and work permit.

Recruitment Agencies: Utilising recruitment companies can be helpful, as many specialise in placing foreign workers and can guide both you and your potential employer through the legal processes.

They will probably only reply to people in Serbia. Did you try to contact them in Serbian or English?

@SimCityAT is totally spot on. Employers will always favour local candidates since they tend to be well-qualified, fluent in the local language, and usually speak English well.

After all, employers need to show the National Employment Service that there are no appropriate local candidates for the job before they can hire someone from outside the EU or a non-local national.

I'm also noticing problems with a lot of real estate agents these days. Many of them don’t even take the time to reply to some of my clients when they reach out in English to set up house viewings.
