Remuneration structure in Saudi Arabia

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Understanding the remuneration structure when living and working in Saudi Arabia will help you better navigate professional life. In order to help other expats and soon-to-be expats grasp everything from gross pay to net pay, we invite you to share your experience.

How is your remuneration structured in Saudi Arabia: basic salary, commissions, 13th month, etc.?

What are the common or mandatory allowances included such as transports, health insurance, pension contributions…?

What are the taxes and social contributions to be considered, especially if deduction is made at source?

What is the regular salary payment frequency in Saudi Arabia: monthly, bi-montlhy, weekly…?

Is it acceptable or common to negotiate salary or benefits?

Are there any specific differences in remuneration structure between expats and locals?

Share your insights and experience.

Thank you for your contribution.

Dear Cheryl,

Thank you for starting this helpful discussion. Here is a summary of the key points regarding expat remuneration in Saudi Arabia, based on my experience.

Expat packages typically consist of a tax-free basic salary plus allowances for housing, transport, and annual flights. Health insurance is mandatory, and employers contribute to GOSI for occupational hazards. Salaries are paid monthly.

It is acceptable to negotiate your full compensation package, including allowances. A major difference for expats is the lack of personal income tax and the end-of-service benefit, which replaces a pension.

I hope this provides a useful overview.

Best regards,
