Offered job with a tourist visa

Hello everyone,

I have been offered an ESL teaching job in Riyadh and the employer has sent me a tourist visit visa which is valid for 90 days. I said I can not work on a tourist visa but they said when I聽 get to Riyadh, they will convert it into a work visa.

Is this possible? I don't want to get into trouble in Saudi Arabia working on a tourist visa.

Hello and welcome !

I think this is a red flag ! You should be cautious and reconsider the offer. Make sure you have a proper visa before entering Saudi Arabia.

Hey @Amadeus1 I hope you're doing well. Regarding your situation.聽 No, you generally cannot convert a tourist visa into a work visa while staying in Riyadh. Saudi Arabia鈥檚 immigration regulations typically require a "complete legal reset," meaning you must exit the country to change your visa status. However, If you receive a job offer while in Saudi Arabia on a tourist visa, you must follow these steps to work legally:

  1. Obtain a Work Permit: Your sponsoring employer must apply for this through the Qiwa platform and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD).
  2. Receive Visa Authorization: This is issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) once the permit is approved.
  3. Mandatory Exit: You must leave Saudi Arabia. You cannot process the work visa from within the Kingdom.
  4. Visa Stamping: You must visit a Saudi embassy or consulate in your home country (or a designated nearby country) to have the new work visa stamped in your passport.
  5. Re-entry and Iqama: Return to Saudi Arabia on your new work visa. Your employer will then apply for your Iqama (residency permit), which is your official identification for living and working in the country.

Hi @jesusisaac I think they want to give me a business visa not an Iqama. If they wanted to give me an Iqama, they could process it now while I am in the UK. I don't know what they are thinking of doing but if I turn the job down, I will lose 13000 Sar per month salary. I don't know what to do :(

@Amadeus1

You can still come with either a business or tourist visa; just make sure the company switches it to a work visa before the deadline.

@Amadeus1

Hello,

Though i am not entirely sure what kind of visa i had, this is the way it worked for me. It looks like - once you enter - those bio metrics will be used to issue your work visa by authorities. It saves your trip to the post office or to Immigration control office [as in the UK and other countries, i guess] too.

Well, one could return before 90 days, if its not mutually beneficial too.

You will need a Saudi mobile number too to register in Absher localisation digital portal.

Wish you all good

Cheers

I didn't go to Saudi in the end. You have to have a proper work permit called an IQama to legally work in Saudi Arabia and a tourist visa isn't right. So, I pulled out and told them to give me a proper visa or I am not going. It was only 13000 SAR a month anyway and 3000 would be for rent and travel costs. 10 000 sar is ok but not great so I decided not to go. You can be fined up to 拢10k if found working illegally in Saudi Arabia according to AI.
