That is so cool, really. I want to try it, but no thanks ! I don't have a license to fly.

How do you keep yourself from not flying away with the kite ?? Also you have no safety gear (Helmets, Knee guards, elbow guards). Won't the mutawas / police here catch you ?
:dumbom:

Check out this International Kite flying Festival that happens every year on Jan 13th in Ahmedabad, India -
I used to fly the smaller kites that they show in this video.

Freshlikesushi

as you can see it pulls me, and lifts me off the ground. its all about knowing the wind window (where the power is) and where to position the kite to have it do what you want.

what can mutawa or police do to me for flying a kite?
they can bitch about my tattoos and piercings, but they dont want to start with me on that.  im not muslim lol.

And sure, there IS safety gear. But im a dumb american so i dont use it

That video is actually very cool. I'm watching it again & again.
And the thrill is in doing without the safety gear.
Good to know that it is allowed in this country. This is something which we all can try and have fun doing in KSA. Thanks for sharing the video. Will get in touch with you, when I'm ready to fly & jump  :)

why wouldnt it be allowed is what i dont understand?

remember that an entry level kite is around 300USD.  so it isnt a super cheap hobby haha

Ha ha. That's why I'm taking a loan from the bank

I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be allowed, but then again, you're in the Magic Kingdom. It might be something they have not seen here before. Or what if the kite slips from your hand and flies away. Or it might obstruct the flying birds and flying objects. Or you might be attracting the attention of the women, because they find kite flying too cool and the kite flying safety defying "dumb" american to be irresistible :P
Now don't use the hammer on me ;)

Freshlikesushi

There are leashes on my wrist so if the kite does, the brakes are applied and it falls to the ground :)

i just look forward to the day i get to talk to someone about it haha

Alliecat

Just saw the video but admit I'm a bit disappointed because silly me thought *you* were really flying!

What would be cool would be a dune buggy-type contraption with a sail to fly around the desert!

Freshlikesushi

you can fly the land buggies with kites rather well actually.

my problem is sourcing one for a decent price.  when i go home on vacation i will prolly bring one back.
easier than the board for sure

fotos&butterflies

I love this! I used to kite in Saudi as a child (the few memories I have of KSA).
