would love some advice if possible

scworldtraveler

Hello all!
so im definitely going to the KSA as soon as possible but i have some questions:
1) most important to me how much would you need to make to survive in the KSA? ive been offered 2000 a month plus free housing. since i have bills at home to pay will i be alright with this salary? what expenses do women have here to worry about (ie how much are rides)
2) are there websites or lists you can join for possible jobs? also, should i expect more than this 2000/month job? i haave a BA and one year teaching abroad experience. without a MA or any tefl can iexpect anything higher?
Thank you!!!

Well it depends 2000 what, if you mean 2000 US $, then that would mean roughly around 7000 SAR, if you have been offered good furnished housing, usually good compounds provide transportation to different malls at various times, even if they don't, taxi rides are 10-20 SAR per ride to practically every where within the city, food and other expenses are negligible amounting to about 1500-2000 SAR per month, entertainment expenses are practically non-existent so no worries here

Usually, single women contracts for jobs in KSA come with housing and transportation. So if the $2,000 (SR 7,500) per month is only for your food and living expenses then you could easily save at least SR 4,000 (US$ 1,000) per month net.

If you can bargain your way up to US$ 3,000 per month that wouild be nice.

It sounds like you will be working on sort of educational center? so in in that field $2000 is good enough as a start up.

you might negotiate the money matter with them once you show them a good side of your skills!

but SR7500 with housing taking care of, is very reasonable!

are you from WV?

I think $2000 is low (of course, you can live easily on this amount but you're being underpaid).

And you can't get a visa without a contract (that you have signed and agreed to) so those people who are telling you to come and renegotiate salary are wrong.  You're locked into whatever amount you agreed to, at least until your next contract where you may be able to negotiate more (or, they tell you that 'policy' has set the salary and they can't negotiate).

As for the cheap cab fares mentioned, sure, if you're in the middle of the city.  Otherwise fares can go up to 30, 40 and even 50SAR (to the airport).  Not a huge amount but certainly would add up if you were doing it frequently.

Good luck!

(and feel free to write me privately).
