Aussie Nurse considering a year in Jeddah?

Hi all,

I've just been offered a year contract at King Faisal hospital in Jeddah.. Contract salary is ok considering all accom etc is paid. I will be leaving my fianc茅 for 12 months if I choose to do this so a little apprehensive what is the best choice!!

Has anyone worked at this hospital/staying in this accommodation?

Keen to hear how safe it is at the moment in compounds as I have heard embassies and compounds can be a target at the moment over there?

Hope to hear back!!

King Faisal was formerly known as Salamah Hospital before the government took over. Anyhoo.

Compounds are safe.

All the best.

It's pretty safe only 1 Embassy got attacked in 2004 no more since then.

thank you. still considering... not sure.
'Safe' is relative. A public fisticuffs here will make headline news, even if no actual punches reach their target. You can leave your wallet on a table or handbag hanging on your seatback while you eat and no one is going to try to pinch it*. Every expat here has had security and health checks up the proverbial (figuratively, not literally), and most are well qualified. The locals are 99% honest - nice from a safety point of view but they won't hold back if they're not keen on non-Saudis!

The roads aren't safe, by any measure. The heat isn't, either. The food, water, soft drinks are very safe.

*Nobody takes that chance, but sometimes you forget to put your wallet/purse out of eyesight. You WILL be overcharged for all sorts of things, though, by 'mistake' (yeah, right).

Thanks for the info :)...
Jeddah is more of a cosmopolitan city, everybody blend in... Safe and sound... city keeps up until late night... Beaches are another attraction.
King Faisal Hospital is one of the best known health care provider here in Jeddah. Health and non-health care employees are being well taken care of because they are considered as the hospital's asset..So, you're in good hands..:)
Smack :D
I thought I had done loads of research and I knew what to expect.
If I had known what Jeddah was really like.... I wouldn't have come.
I don't feel bitter about Jeddah. It's just not the place for someone like me.
Keeping my fingers crossed to leave at the end of Christmas.
PM me if, if I can help with information.
They have a modest accomodation a compound with complete facilities. And the admistration support the employees all the way. welcome!!!
Hello,

Have you been able to get to Jeddah?聽 How is it going so far?
I am just checking if here are any weekend activities scheduled in Riyadh or Dammam this weekend
Have you arrived in the Kingdom
king faisal hospital and their accommodations locating in very prestigious place of jeddah where the sea and main shopping areas are just near. regarding the safeness you should't think about it the city is very safe and no places are targeted.

welcome November man....

I feel like jeddah is not clean place in KSA every where is trash and garbage is around. KSA government needs to little bit more in environment and clean the city and roads.

I feel Al Khobar is best place to live in KSA only. Even Riyadh is not good either.
Hi James,

Just wondering weather you accepted the job and ended up in Saudi?
I have been offered a job in King Faisal hospital too. Still awaiting formal job offer and salary, not really sure what to expect.

I am married and will be going alone for one year.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
