Hello all, I will soon be traveling to Ras al Khair for a good length of time. I REALLY don't want to make any mistakes that will get me into trouble. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Now this will be my first major international travel experience and I'm in the dark on a few things. 1st, I have visible tattoos on my arm (none of which are offensive). are tattoos "frowned upon"? 2nd, I smoke, is that going to be an issue? I also heard media is very censored, will I be able to bring my ipad with music and movie files? I'm just looking to make this a great experience for myself. i also would love to make new friends and contacts. thanks guys.

There are loads of threads for you to read through and learn about what you can and cantdo. Tattoos are not a worry I saw a guy with both full sleeves just the other day wondering around hyatt. The cashiers are dead interested in the tattoo I have on my hand so I don't think they are to worried about them. If you head to some of the malls in the evenings, it seems all saudis smoke and same for ipads - it is now haram not to have at least one

thanks loopy, as far as the ipad i was just concerned about the content being censored. also i am a huge football(american) fan, will i be able to watch any games? GO BEARS!!! LOL

Well I have never seen any games myself but there is OSN etc here and you can always watch stuff via the laptop and plug it in to the TV if you want big screen. I have never seen anyones luggage rummaged and although there is talk of them taking items like laptops etc at the airport I have never seen or heard of anyone having happen to them. I came through this time with 2 laptops 3 ipods playbook and 3 phones. No one payed it any attention. I would suggest you dont tempt fate though by bringing in a ton of porn if thats what you have on there Like I said you can always use the laptop ...

Hahaha, no theres no porn. Thanks so much for the info though. Like i said my travels abroad have been limited to the military, but i'm really looking forward to getting there. I've spent the last few hours reading threads and i can say without a doubt, my fears and reservations have been put to rest. Although it would be nice to date and have a nice cold beer, i think it'll be great.
