New expat at King Faisal Hospital
My advice to anyone looking to move here is not to expect to much and socialise, sign up to a social club, get internet access and take each day as it comes.
Good luck

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 I have met some great people on my compound so that has been one of the things that has kept me sane. I also have fantastic friends back home in the UK which i am in constant contact with.
I'm still trying to get used to the heat and wearing an abaya but i'm sure with time i should become content.

Miss_Unique.
Welcome there are plenty of us Brits about so if you feel low in the first few weeks you just need to go online and call for help. I'm over at the Arabian Homes Compound just north of the military airport in the centre of town.

Martin

cheers,

All you have to do is join Corona Worldwide,
I think it was around 165SAR for a the year. I think you can just come along and join
coronaworldwide.org/node/2

Martin

Yes definitely join Corona Ladies, it's really nice. They won't be doing any events till after Ramadan now but it's totally worth it.
I understand how you feel with the mixed emotions/lonelyness etc.
I've found it quite difficult to make new friends (dunno what that says about me! haha) so it can be a tad lonely.
Working in a hospital though means you'll work with/meet people much easier

Just gotta soldier on I guess!!
I found this link whist looking for a contact for the 3rd Herd Hash Harriers!
It has a list of all sorts of activities and contacts.
Still haven't found what I am looking for so if anyone has any details of the 3rd Herd please let me know :-)
Running and walking I'm the heat sounds fun with 200 like minded nutters!
Laylah wrote:Hi Martin the third heard group gets together every Friday, they meet nearby the KFSH hospital. If you have your own car you could show up at the pick up point and offer a ride to some people waiting there for rides, they are always looking for more drivers!
Thanks Laylah
Yes I have a car do you know the meet time and exact location at the Hospital?
Regards
Martin
britgirly hope things have improved for you. I'm starting to become comfortable here even though i have some way to go before i can say i'm settled.
I'm taking each day as it comes.
Hope you enjoy your stay..

Also enjoy reading the responses to this thread.聽 What are you all doing in Saudi?聽 I see a number of you working at a hospital.聽 Are you medical practitioners?
If you're interested in getting dolled up, something cool is happening soon...聽 IS there not some way I can invite you... without inviting all of you (no offence ppl).

Obviously you will have worked out by now that you are not alone!
I can tell you that in my first couple of years after leaving the UK I had never cried so much in my whole life as I did in that period but at the same time I had never had so many happy times/experiences either.
Leaving family & friends is tough to put it mildly but in the end if you can stick it out, I doubt you will regret it.
Keep your chin up and enjoy the moment

Good luck!
Feel the fear, but do it anyway!

But are you in the Emirates or KSA?聽 If you're in Dubai, you have NO idea what it's like here in Saudia.
I now live in Dubai but previously I have lived in KSA so I do know what it is like to live there.
Kind regards

Hi, okay good .. because some people I've met who live in the UAE seem to think the Middle East is all the same.聽 As you know, this sure isn't the case!!
Cheers Gav
Ummmm im not to sure what the male accomodation is like,i live in the building next to the main male accomodation block which is on the hospital grounds. If it's anything to go by, i was lucky enough that i didnt have to share and got a little studio flat which was newly refurbished.
Getting set up on the internet is really easy,if you do it through the social club you just have to take the modem (which should be in your room) and your laptop to the office and they will sort it out for you, the cost just comes out of your wages every month then. I didnt go through the social club, i got it from the phone shop on site and bought it all up front.
Hope this answers your question
