Nightlife in Riyadh ?

It's been a while since i moved to Riyadh, and unfortunately it's totally a different lifestyle from the place where i came. There's no social activities that can be made, except for cafes and restaurants. Is there any way to get linked to social events or gathers and meet new people around that might share the interest of music, parties, etc?

My guess is that there are a number of ways in which you can socialise, although it very much depends on how you want to go about it.

Depending on what you do in your day job, you might want to try and socialise with work colleagues who may introduce you to other people and you can network that way. Alternatively, you can go on events that expats go to and with a bit of luck you might be able to find somebody who can get you into a party somewhere.

Best places I would guess would be social events at an embassy where music, DJ's, food/drink are in plentiful supply.

I think here in Saudi it is very much a case of who you know rather than what you know, but in order to know the people, you need to put a little bit of work in mixing in the right kinds of circles.

Also, it might be useful for you to get in touch with your local embassy to see if they have any events planned etc. Send me a PM, I may know somebody....no promises though.

Sam my advice to you is join one of the two Hash House Harrier groups here in Riyadh. They will give you a chance to meet Expat's in the flesh so to speak and then open up opportunities to go to parties in compounds and at the Embassy functions.

The nurses from the hospitals also have a very wide social web and can be another source of knowledge and access to parties.

For the Hash ask most Brits they will know where to go for the meet or DM me and I will give you some more info!

Well to be fair, there is a nightlife here in Riyadh, it just isn't quite the same as nightlife back in the western sense of the word.

Well if you dont like the nightlife here then try dubai, bahrain or doha.

You cannot guarantee an entry to to any foreign embassy unless your name is listed on the guest list, which is an obstacle, and most of the famous compounds that have a good ambiance also require the same thing. In fact, married couples don't face the same glitches that singles face. I'm single, and i don't know any girl here; i called to reserve on a party located in "Fal Compound" tomorrow, and they asked for lady companion in order to enter. it's a loop

! how to break it at this level ?

Yes, there are parties / musical shows are going around. Yesterday I attended jazz musical show in American Embassy. It was good I enjoyed the night.

I just arrived in Riyadh a couple of weeks back and like all newbie expats, im looking for the expat network community. I came across your post about the Hash groups and wanted to get more info about them

Good evening
I would suggest that yu join internations in Riyadh.
It is quite an active branch with several different activities.

I run the 4 x 4 section and we try and go out to the desert at least 2 times a month.
Last trip was to the Edge of The World 2 weeks ago and around 30 people went along.
This week I organided 10 Pin Bowling and over 20 turned up.
