Lots of people (actually, mostly Filipinas) wear surgical masks when the weather is dusty.聽

It seems that diabetes and asthma are quite a problem here.
I usually experience allergic rhinitis during sandstorm. Most of our cases are diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.

True but many cases are type 1 (hereditary--there's a bad gene in the pool but since the Saudi's discourage marrying outsiders, this gene is perpetuated.聽 I read, in fact, that if it continues at the rate it's going, there will be no Saudis left in 60 years).

Me and my kids having problems聽 with dry skin .聽 and I feel soooo tired all the time

Muslims 1 the climate here is very dry so without using moisturiser your skin will dry out. The tiredness depending on how long you have been here can be accounted for with the altitude we are over 600m (approx 2000 ft) above sea level. Not many places in the UK are that high and it will make you feel tired for a time after you first arrive!

Endemic to Saudi would be diabetes, cardiovascular disease and diseases related to obesity. Family history of specific diseases like sickle cell disease are among the highest in the world. This maybe due to common genetic pool. I do notice that during dust storms acute attacks of asthma are higher. Other causes may be due to some industry being so close to major cities like cement factories with higher sulphur content.
McDonald - yes, kapsa - oh yes. Unhealthy living in Saudi has its problems.
Women and obesity in Saudi - another big topic. There has been a lot of lifestyle changes in the last 30 years. Average intake was 1500kcal while today the average Saudi consumes more than 4500kcal.

That's why they wear abayas

Actually the reason for the abaya stems from traditions and religion and not related to obesity. I was looking at life style changes, eating habits etc.
obesity is a world-wide problem.
"Your mama..." Jokes did not start in Saudi, :P
Let us not criticise an entire culture.
I believe there r some fine Saudi ladies out there

wont be any oil either, so it wont matter lol

but really. its the large amounts of sweets and junk food pushed all over the place, lack of activity and overall (as i observe) lazyness.

Actually the incidence is increasing at an alarming rate. I do agree diabetes is a major issue in Saudi. More than hereditary, is the life style changes. Less activity and more calories. Back home we had a lot of activity compared to Saudi. I mean walking in Saudi isn't so easy (too hot). Sports clubs are like a luxury. Food is cheap. Smoking is an additional risk factor. I hope there would be more investment in sport clubs especially for women. And this Saudi kapsa is so delicious too. The locals as well as expats keep saying the same thing. That is there is not much to do here in Saudi. Especially for ladies

Enormous usage of all chemical hand sanitizers (especially those alcohol-free, based on povidone-iodine, benzalkonium chloride or triclosan), as well as spray air fresheners and parfums, kills useful gut microflora (which is natural body protections), damages lungs and causes different allergies and astma. Non-openable windows and missing natural ventilation in most accommodations increases the risk.

Too low temperatures in stores, offices and schools (for example - most students in classrooms wear warm cardigans) causes chill diseases.

I use pure Red sea water for nose spray - the best natural medicine for sniffle.

I like heat and being in +40C I always think that this is better than -20C, even better than +5 . At least at your home you can tune the AC temperature as you want. My comfort temperature is +26C-+28C and our ACs are mostly off from November till March.
