Hi Rigger,

It is everywhere in the world 5 prayers only.
Sunrise is not a prayer, it is mentioned as a timing to know when the sun will rise. :)

All prayers call time is related to sun movement during the day till the night starts which is corresponds to Isha time.
Magrib time for example corresponds to sunset time and its name derived from "Ghrob" in Arabic, which means sunset.

Thank you, sir!聽 I've always taught my children that in order to have a good day they should try to learn something new each day.聽 Today is a good day!

This gives a brief overview of the prayer timing basis, and if you click on each prayer name, it gives further details:

In brief:

Fajr: when the morning twilight can be seen across the full width of the sky. Ranges from approx. 5 to 6 am during the year.

Dhuhr: just after the sun passes its zenith.聽 Around noon the whole year.

Asr: when an object's shadow is equal to its length (and some scholars say when the shadow is double in length, and I believe that's the one used here).聽 Ranges from 3 to 4 pm during the year.

Maghrib: just after the sun has completely disappeared under the horizon.聽 Ranges from from as early as 5:30 pm (December) to 7:30 pm (July)

Isha: when complete darkness begins and all the redness has gone from the sky.聽 In Saudi, always exactly 1.5 hours after the previous prayer call, except in Ramadan when it is 1 hr after.
Actually sunrise is the time where Al-Fajir must be prayed before. as remaining prayings time are open till next pray else Al-Fajir is limited to sunrise.
Technically i dont know anything about why those prayer times are choosen. But if you wanna know prayer time for everyday use this link. 聽 聽 just choose your city and it will show you prayer time for that location.
Some good information there, thanks for posting,

One final question..聽 As everything closes for these Prayer times, what determines the length?聽 of does everything close for a pre determined time?聽 I know there are places. even the app on my phone, where you can get start times, just not the duration.

Thanks for any information..
The total duration from first prayer call till finish of prayer is 25-30 minutes for all prayers except for the 2nd to last one for the day, which is 15-20 minutes.聽 Everything except hospitals close for the whole duration
sometimes they take more time than the prayer time. Yesterday the prayer time was around 18:31, but we waited till 19:20 for the store to open. So consider to go choosing 30-40 Mins after prayer time.

You are welcome.
Have a good day each day, nice say

Just wondering if prayer timings are determined by the sun position during the day and the timings changes from place to place then what will be the timing if someone lives in Antarctica ? For now I know there are only a bunch of scientist who stays there but if there was a colony there ....... will it be 5 prayers for a whole year as the single day & night last there for 6 month each ????

Heard,
in such cases and other countries facing irregular timing that it is allowed to them to estimate and follow Mekkah timing if they can or nearest country to them which have a 24-hours and they can determine day & night. :)
Islam Religion is flexible.

It is possible that the five daily prayer times were established to intervene with a persons normal work day in such a manner that he stops what he is doing and spends a few minutes focusing on his Creator is that this will bring him close to doing good rather than engage in something that is bad or detrimental to himself and those around him.

Which, no matter ones belief system, can't be a bad thing.
Well yes that's one of the reasonings behind regular 5 daily prayers (unfortunately, many people seem to be immune to it).聽 And the timings relate to various positions of the sun because that is something that makes it universal, so the timings can easily be figured out pretty much anywhere.
Unfortunately, the ritual is fast becoming a thing of habit rather than one with intent and active participation. Thats why you see worshippers parking their cars 3, 4 abreast outside the Mosques, blocking motor and pedestrian traffic, inconveniencing others without a care in the world pure;y to fulfill their personal obligation. Further, you see them tyrn into devils behind the wheel when they step out of the Mosque and drive away. Its sad, but true.
Sadly anytime religion becomes a ritual and strays from a relationship the believers lose sight of why they believe.聽 It's common across all people of faith.
