Debriefing/Counselling sessions

For a change...

Is there any group of expats in Riyadh who do counselling sessions? It's like people with the same interest to share experiences and discuss how to deal with problem(s) someone is going through聽 (eq family/couples/singles/crisis)

I'd like to join and help. I feel that's more meaningful than attending a party

Yea I guess we can. Just refer them to here.

Realistically speaking, it's a good initiative, such support groups will help a lot of people here who are suffering through the stigma of social life in ksa or any other problems they may face.

Right...you think there is something like that here?

Unfortunately none as of now, at least organized. Informal support groups can be found within most communities but cater only to those within that community.

No, it's a good topic. Seriously, I have noticed that everyone financial knowledge is so much lacking. Schools do teach us how to earn money; but who teaches how to spend it? We can build one such group.

A few ideas tossed:
- Out of the many expatriates you know, how many have actually made some savings? Shockingly low population in my observation.

- If someone is in financial trouble, he can seek our advice about recovery or a complete make-over plan.

Thoughts?

A very good initiative TLL, a niche area I would say when it comes to financial independence & freedom for expats.

Oh that's brilliant TLL. Take the lead...I'm here to help :)

But maybe we should not limit it to "financial knowledge/issues" but other "crisis" an expat might be experiencing.

Excellent point, reminds me of my time where I volunteered , I had to go teach 9th graders reality of life, so it was 1 day programme held every year. Basically we'd ask the kids to choose a profession and give them a pay scale, from there they'd own Ferraris, yachts and all lavish styles of life. We'd teach them how to be more cautious in the real world when it came to spending, 99 % of the participants would be bankrupt by end of the day.

This was an eye opener for me and my colleagues particularly teaching a way to monitor your spending.

One bite at a time, that's the right way to eat an elephant. Initially, we can open the financial knowledge channel and then start accepting other issues.

For example, if someone is very happy in his life, we can ask @hamudi to counsel him so that he could successfully screw up his life.

That would be great. Just need to have it organized though. ;)
