Overstayed and Going Back During Entry Ban?

I overstayed after expiry of my residence permit for 10 months and got entry ban of 6 months. I got admission in 4 year degree program in university. Border control officer told me i can come back during entry ban by applying annotated visa.

Anyone who had similar experience and went back during entry ban? My ban ends on sep 8. Is it okay to apply visa now? I am scared about rejection.
