Who with RP visa has imported their USA plated car into Mexico?

( in my opinion ) One of the drawbacks to Residente Permanente visa is you no longer can apply at the border for a TIP ( Temporary Import Permit - very affordable and easy to apply with either a Tourist Visa, or Residente Temporal visa ).聽 聽So I now have my Residente Permanente visa ( a house with escritura publica, bank account, pay Predial, agua, gas and CFE in my name and at my address ) and made the drive across the border multiple times ( couple of morida experiences too ).

So, I would be interested in anyone's experience with the "importing process" of my USA plated car.聽 I travel with two cats, some household items, and stay in little posados along the cuota toll road route.聽 I do enjoy the drive, the stops for gas, coffee and bathroom breaks . . . and I am not a fan of "shipping" my cats on any airline - too stressful for them ( and me).聽

I've gotten a couple of quotes regarding "importing" my car ( estimates mind you ) and those pricing charges are HUGE - thousands of dollars.聽 聽Funny, AMLO did introduce a reduced import fee on USA plated cars for a few select states in Mexico, I don't qualify, and don't live in any of those northern states聽 . . . BUT for approximately 2500 mxn pesos I thought wow !!!

Muchas gracias por tus paciencia y ayuda conmigo, and I appreciate your comments.聽 聽con una sonrisa聽 聽 Tony

Two choices.

1. Import US car and pay HUGE fees.

2. Purchase car in MX. MX registered in state of residency. Much less expensive.

Unfortunately, even with huge fees, it still can鈥檛 be brought to the U.S..聽 聽There is a total ban on Chinese connected-vehicle software in place.聽

Another reason is they haven鈥檛 passed the proper crash tests.聽 They could easily pass them, but they haven鈥檛 bothered, since other things are keeping them out, not the least of which is the 100% import tariff.
