American expats - how do you think the US elections will affect you?

Hi everyone. I’m a content writer for Expat Magazine, and we are planning on writing an article about what American expats abroad (and non-American expats living in the US) think about the upcoming presidential elections. How do you think the results will affect your life as an expat? Might it affect your decision to stay where you are or return to your home country? What are your worries and hopes? Do you think the result might affect practical issues such as your taxes, pension, or prospects for getting a visa for your spouse (if she/he is not a US citizen)? Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts with us.

I really don't think the election results will effect me at all.  From a philosophical viewpoint, I'm obviously pulling for Trump, but we've had 8 years of Barry and 4 years of Brandon and we survived.  Will Kammy and her handlers f*** things up worse?  Of course, but I don't believe she will f*** things up horribly to precipitate a civil war.

why is this post under review..... nothing bad was said nothing insulting.  Just say trump supporter.  So is this website going the fascist liberal route and getting rid of anything positive about trump? I used this website alot 3 years ago when i was looking at and then moved to Mexico.  But it has gotten worse and worse over the last 3 years.  Not even trying to hide your one sided opinion of things.  you ask for a opinion and you got one... not what you wanted so you erase it.  Just like mine will be erased so only pro liberal opinions can be voiced here.

This is a good question.  How will Mexico react to a secure border?  Massive reduction of remittances? The green agenda and the attack of the usa owned mining company that they are going to just take their port over.  Yes the only deep port not on a dock on the east side of the mexico.... sorta obvious why they want to take it... just south of cancun....

Billions of USD left mexico when the new president made sure to say she is going green which is going to hurt since we have power outages in summer because of lack of power.  Now what company is going to build a plant where they cant get power.  Yup so they are pulling out by the billions.  Now is she going to mess with the x pats who bring in millions of usd each year?  I hope not but if she does we will leave and others will too.  And now she lost more money.

Billions in remittances are gone... billions in business investments are gone... now she could mess up and cost them the millions of usd that x pats bring in.  The investors are all putting Mexico in the sell category.   She needs to do more than just say ohh I won't hurt business she needs to have actions proving it.  And green power which hasn't worked anywhere in the world outside of nuclear power.  Me and my wife are just hoping she leaves us x pats alone.  But if she comes after us we leave and take the thousands of usd we spend a month with us.  Lets see if the Mexican govt thinks about that before they start any attacks on us.

Ahhh, this is not why I am leaving the USA, because we are actually going to take care of my wife's aging parents, one with Alzheimer's, but while you bring up the subject, my thoughts on politics in the USA is that not all republicans are racist, not all democrats are socialists, and if you think one of those things, chances are the problem with our country is.....

Look forward to leaving politics behind upon arrival in Mexico as I get permanent residency in DEC 2026.  Trump once said Mexico was not sending USA their best people, which personally I took offense to, because my wife is Mexican.  Because she works in health care, I had a few procedures for very little money that would have cost me a great deal.  In fact, we joke that I "married her for MY papers".

How does this affect the Ex-Pat living in Mexico?  Well, Mexico is the birthplace of Machismo, so they know that Trump is just being Trump and talking to get attention.  Macho knows macho, and my Mexican family just shakes their head and asks what is wrong with the guy.  Other than that, if he is truly acting to advance the majority of people in the USA, results will rule at the end of the day.

This November there will be a change a coming, and whether it swings left or right, I certainly hope it swings less dramatically.  It is the extremes that make us sick, and when the USA gets sick, the world gets much sicker.  Hoping for moving our political discourse back to the center where cooler heads can prevail and stop demonizing each other
